My
memories flooded back when I found this website! I attended Ulverley
from 1970-1976. I remember my first day at school, being shuffled to the
plasticine table and sitting next to Joanne Bennett, who went on to be
my best friend. From the early years I remember Ian Blick (my first
boyfriend and his mum was our dinner lady), Anthony Grice, Amanda
Alliston, Sarah Hicks and Rachel MacPherson. Later, and into the Junior
school I remember Dean Clow, Stephen Skinner, Amanda Knights, Maria
Fitzgerald, Joanne Crozier, Sally Hunt, Julian Franks and Sandra Cooper.
Do any of these names ring any bells for anyone? I'm living in Africa
and would love to hear from anyone from this era.

My very
happy memories of Ulverley were in the 60's.Mrs Barry Headed Infants and
Mr. Daniels the Juniors. A penny on friday for the Sunshine Homes.
Chocolate concrete with pink custard. Trying and failing to climb the
apparatus. Mrs Vickerman and Mr Green, both I loved dearly. Lots of fun.
Friends living in the prefabs. Too many pals to mention. Not forgeting
the inspiring school song that I remember fondly. The only downside was
a male teacher who used the slipper. Thank goodness he didnt last long.
Apart from that Ulverley was a great school.

I have
great memories of Ulverley School and a lot of history within my family
tradition. Starts off with that my sister in law and sister
attended the the school in the 1950's and her father Harold is 91 years
young helped to build the school. My sister in law was Susan Wilcox and
her elder sister was Janet.
My history goes to the period between 1962 -1969 when Mr Daniels was
headmaster and teachers were Mrs Williams and Mr Green and Mr Johns (my
favourite teacher) and my friends were Steve Brough, Chris Freeman and
Glen Hughes etc and then I went to Lyndon Secondary School in Sheldon
and I still live in Olton.
Recently I have my step son Lee Spencer who is currently attending
Ulverley School because his mom and I getting married in July 2007.
I have a great memory of Ulverley School including people like Ross
Whittingham Steve Smith, Gary Green and not forgetting Johnny Ruck. I
include older children Steve Westwood, David Harrison and Michael
Parsons etc.
In fact my nieces attended Ulverley there were Lisa (Edwards) and Anna (Bant)
and went onto Lode Heath School. I would like to see how there are
doing and a possible a reunion could be organised.
Presently I work within the civil service and my office which is based
locally as an Admistrative Support Officer.

Vanessa's notes reminded me of when I attended Ulverley from 1966 to
1970, the teachers I remember were Mr Kitchen, Mr Green, Mr Waring.
After Ulverley I attended Alderbrook, then left for Australia where I
now run my own Information Resource Organisation from HQ in Sydney. The
only one I remember was Lydia Cheeney (sorry if i spelt it wrong Lydia).

Hi all,
I was at Ulverley 69-75 same as Vanessa (Hiya) and lived on Summerfield
Road. Actually my parents are still there and I only live by Olton
Hollow. I remember the people Vanessa mentions, also Richard Beech,
Peter Dixon, Peter Shaw, Kenneth Pearson, Bryn Thomas, Nigel Marley,
Sarah Fletcher, Michelle 'Midge'Austin, John Stokes, Dawn Lawson, Paul
Taylor. Seem to remember Mrs Barry was head when we started then Mr
Kitchen took over? Remember Mr Warings art classes well - lots of papier
mache. Also Mr Johnstone was a great shot with the board rubber. Also
playing war in the playground - also discovered kiss-chase... Remember a
great school trip with Mr Johnstone on a canal boat and a roman villa.

I
attended this school to 1967. I to can remember some of the staff; Mr
Daniels (Head), Mrs Garnowski, Mr Green (form master, Mr Waring. I can
also remember a Mrs Moss who used to help with the school meals - no-one
ever left any cabbage when she was on duty. Does any one remember the
pink custard with chocolate dessert? I can also remember fellow pupils.
Nigel Hobday (perfect smile) Steven Davis (a lad's lad) Christopher
Green (always grinning) Paul Summer (ran like the wind, but could never
catch me) Christopher Bennett (spikey hair, but good at cricket) Simon ?
(always won throwing the cricket ball). I know, it all sounds rather
sad, but I have fond memories of growing up there - especially when
compared to the following few years at Harold Malley.

I was
at this school between 1969 to 1975 and would like to know if anyone
remembers me and please, please contact me thru my website as I would
love to hear from you. I stayed at 18, Knightsbridge Road, and remember
people like Guy Rafferty, Conrad Bowser, Ian Fraser, Laura Pashley,
Melanie Majumda, Lesley White, Jane White, Karen Hughes, Denise Wheeler,
David Wish, The Dixons who stayed at the top of Knightsbridge Road near
Highwood Ave.,and Hayley Scrivenger. Teachers I remember were Mr
Kitchen, who at that time was the Head teacher. Mr Green, Mr Waring, Mrs
Scott, Miss Owen, Miss Gibson, Mr Johnstone.

I was
at Ulverley from about 1964 till 1967, and remember well Mr. Waring, Mrs
Garnowski, Mr. Green, Mr Johns, and Mr Daniels the headmaster. I recall
Christopher Green, Paul Summer, Graham Bowdler, Keith McCoy, Christopher
Bennett, Christopher Jackson to date. I guess more names will come to
light, the more i remember 'old school days'. When in Mr. Warings class
my desk looked directly out the the huge bird table outside, and I think
that was the cause for me becoming interested in wild birds. I see more
Golden Eagles and Buzzards and Ospreys now, as I live in Scotland, than
the usual chaffinches, sparrows, blackbirds and blue tits which i saw at
Ulverley.

Today's browse through the
pages of your site, (a bi-monthly visit) brought Ulverley to mind and
Jill's letter about Mr Garner stirred memories. I attended Ulverley for
some years and was in Mr. Garners class prior to the 11 plus exams. I
lived in the prefabs , some sort of wartime housing , which probably
have long been torn down, and spent many happy days in the area.
My mother recently sent me an old school photo and Mr Garner is standing
directly over my right shoulder. He was a solid guy, round face and
thinning blond hair. He once sent me to the stockroom at the rear of the
classroom for a whack with a "plimsoll", one of his sterner punishments.
My misdemeanour is long forgotten but I was so scared I stayed very
quiet and he forgot about me until class ended. He then discovered me
and sent me off without my whack, for which I was most grateful! One
other teacher whose name I recall was Miss Jones, She was very
kindly, with her hair in a "bun". Mr. Daniels the headmaster is centre
stage in the photo flanked by the head boy and girl. Many names come
flooding back as I look at the faces, I wonder where they all are now.
My mother says she still sees one of the two Chamberlain twin girls
around town.
Names I remember, Colin Jones, Bobby "Pobble" Hughes. (I think the "pobble"
was some sort of character from the Beano or Dandy comics), Penny Woods,
Dawn Stacey, Michael Fox, Gillian Anderson, Naomi Woods, Josephine
Cadman, Malcolm Jones, Glyn Davies, Naomi Jacobs.

Richard Wilford's entry reminded me of the time I spent at Ulverley
School. I too spent the odd time in Mr Garner's stockroom and suffered
the humiliation and pain of the famous "plimsoll". But he was a good
teacher and a great human being. He always had time for people. Penny
Woods and Josephine Cadman both lived in Kimberley Road where my
parents' house was.( Number 22). I must have started at Ulverley around
1948, my older brother Peter was already there.
I was lucky enough to become Head Boy in my last term along with Pat
Hart(I think that's how it was spelt) who became head girl. I wonder if
Richard's photograph is of us standing with Mr Daniels and Mrs Jones.
That year I received the Poole Trophy which was a great honour for an
eleven year old boy. I think I still have it! If not I still have
photographs my mother took in our back garden of me proudly holding it.
Those were the days!
>From Ulverley I went to Solihull School and since then have lived and
worked in New Zealand and now Australia where I now reside with my wife,
daugher of 25 and identical twin boys of 22. Gee doesn't time fly!
I now live in Australia
