My partner and I dined for the first time at The Town House last week
after reading some great reviews in recent glossy magazines. We shared
the platter of oysters and tiger prawns to start which were delicious
and my partner then had the 8oz fillet steak which he loved and I had
the cod with shrimp butter which was cooked beautifully. Their wine list
offered a huge amount of great wines (we had a fantastic Rioja) and
we're going back next week for our friend's birthday! Great atmosphere,
fine food and friendly staff ... I definitely recommend this restaurant

My company had a Christmas meal here last week and I thoroughly
enjoyed it. The food was good, atmosphere festive, the help I had
organising it brilliant, the menu varied and the service sound. The
waitresses were a little slow perhaps and one or 2 had to wait slightly
longer for their pudding but as there were 15 of us eating, it's hard to
complain. I had never been before but their Christmas menu was good
value for money and people commented afterwards that they had felt very
special while they were there.

I ate out for lunch yesterday at The Townhouse and i have to say it was
one of the best lunches i have had for a long time. i took out my friend
and was pleasantly surprised by how lovely the girls who served us were.
they were helpful and always had a smile on their faces even when they
weren't serving the customers! we both dined off their new sandwich menu
i was told and had two salads, which were so tasty. i have to say i
really don't understand why any one can complain about this faultless
restaurant- maybe its because they are just the usual stuck up Solihull
snobs! anyway i have to say thank you it was lovely and i will definitely
be visiting again! its a stunning place. thank you very much to the
girls who served us!

We went to the Townhouse for the first time last weekend. We had a good
size booth inside the restaurant which we found to be good in general.
The disappointment was from the food which we all agreed was over priced
and not good enough. Two of us had salads that although were good size
portions were bland and dry. No such things as dressings in the
Townhouse it would appear. I had loin of pork which again was good sized
but was less than impressive as a meal. The service was OK and quite
friendly but they did forget our drinks. For the money there is much
better in Solihull. The Orange Tree, Mortons and McKees offer better and
provide good value. I don't mind paying more for my meal if it delivers
on quality and since all four of us came to the same conclusion
independently I don't think we'll bother again.

Noting that this is the same chain (or owner?) as the Durham Ox, I was
expecting a similarly enjoyable experience. I was wrong. The layout of
the restaurant is cluttered, the acoustics unpleasant, the bar area is
not separate enough and therefore smoke filters into the restaurant
area. The staff, whilst not rude, are far from polite or helpful. The
food is slightly over priced and the portions minute; you will leave
hungry. Finally, the ambient lighting is reminiscent of a cinema - it is
difficult to read the menu or see the person you are sitting with. If
you demand a pleasant eating experience then there are far better
restaurants in the Solihull area, the Durham Ox or the Orange Tree being
two of them. Avoid.

I've eaten at the Townhouse on a number of occasions and every time has
been excellent. Can not fault the place. I recently held my mother's

Myself and my wife both ate at the townhouse on the 25/07 which came
recommended by friends of ours. as we arrived we were greeted by a young
lady with a huge smile which we both thought was refreshing as we eat
out a lot and never feel welcome. the food was excellent as was the
atmosphere for a Tuesday. the service was punctual which was given by
the same girl who greeted us, which we both thought was a nice touch and
very intimate. the slow roasted lamb was cooked perfectly. the only flaw
of the evening was the dessert menu, which we found not very
adventurous. on the whole i will be eating at the townhouse again soon.

Celebrated a birthday at the Town House on Friday, my 2nd visit, and it
was as enjoyable as the 1st. Food was exceptional and although the main
meal was small in size after the delicious starter i didn't have room
for any more. My party of 5 had a variety of meals and we couldn't say a
bad word about any of them. Only slight gripe is that the drinks are
quite expensive. Will definitely be visiting again.

The food is a good standard, but not enough of it. Especially the 2/3

Visited 20/12/05 with a party of 50. Many thanks for your
hospitality today. It couldn't have gone better for us.
The welcome was professional and warm, the room layout was superb, the
food was delicious and you managed to cope with my overrunning speech,
the service throughout the day was impeccable, and it all cemented our
guest's impression of Home of Choice.
We will certainly use your facilities frequently moving forward as we
grow month on month. May I take this opportunity to thank you and your
team once again for a superb day , and to wish you a very prosperous

Very small portions - quality of ingredients not sufficient to
compensate for this. Menu somewhat limited and cheese board extremely
poor.

Wanted a light lunch ordered a chicken baguette. It came buttered on
one side only, slabs of very cold tasteless chicken and very cold
stuffing and an inch of equally tasteless bacon, asked for some
cranberry sauce to try to liven it up but no such luck, i ate one
quarter of the baguette and the bit of salad but the waitress although a
lovely girl didn't ask if it was ok, the chef needs to go over the road
to subs and see how it is done, if he cant put a tasty baguette together
what chance is there of a good meal, we didn't risk ordering a sweet or
gaelic coffees what was the point. This was our second visit to
townhouse the first was very poor service, but the actual meal was O.K.,
we put this down the it being a new restaurant so thought we would give
it another try, for our friends it was their first visit, comments from
all four NEVER AGAIN.

There were 4 people in our party. We ordered 4 different starters and 3
different main meals. All the starters were of a reasonable standard for
any restaurant/pub. However the main meals were a standard on their own.
The steak was rare as requested but quite tough. The lamb shank was
cooked in a revolting sauce. This had to be covered in mint to eat! The
2 honey glazed pork dishes were vile. One was completely left. The
frozen chips were excellent, lightly salted and in their own little
bowls! I will never eat in this cafe again. SACK THE CHEF.

Having to be on a stand at the NEC is bad enough but then what do you do
for a meal in the evening? Confined to plastic food from mediocre hotels
is not very exciting. The Town House changed all that from the minute I
contacted them. A table for 16 is never easy. Pleasant and helpful
staff with nothing too much trouble followed by a meal which equals
anything I have experienced including the renowned Gordon at Claridge's.
Obviously a chef at the top of his craft with a flair for providing
tasty enjoyable food. A wonderful evening, unable to fault it.

It's a shame that Maggie Rhodes felt she had to wait an hour for her
table considering that no-one has ever had to wait that long for a table
at the Town House. It's also quite incredible that her letter of
complaint never arrived and had it have done so, it would have been
dealt with immediately. On such a busy night as she suggests would
anywhere in Solihull be child friendly, although could that be because
she never asked to see the delights of the children's menu and spoken to
the staff about how well children are looked after when they dine at The
Town House. In fact you could ask was she ever there at all as her
reservation was mysteriously not in the diary.

Waited 1 hour for our previously booked table so large drinks bill
whilst we waited. The food is nice but tiny portions and very expensive.
Not a family restaurant and not good value for money. After 2 courses I
was still hungry after paying £70 including wine for 2 of us. I wrote a
letter to the manager with my comments but no reply, obviously do not
appreciate any feedback from customers. Just take your money and run!! I
would not recommend.

Our family eat at this restaurant on a regular basis. We find the
staff courteous and friendly and the atmosphere warm and welcoming.
There is an excellent menu offering a good cross section of delightful
food catering for every need. They have even managed to offer quality
along with catering for children, the two rarely go hand in hand.
Whether a Sunday lunch with the family, or a quieter evening with my
Husband, (a rare event!) The Townhouse have certainly struck the balance
right. Long may they remain, as and long as they do, I shall certainly
be singing their praises and returning time after time. Oh, and the wine
list is excellent too!

their plates completely. We have subsequently returned on several
occasions and had great food. I have already recommended the Town House

Had the steak and my girlfriend had the chicken. When complained
that the steak was rare and I had ordered it well done, waitress made no
attempt to apologise and then it took another 40 minutes! for me to get
another, by which time my girlfriend had eaten her meal. When I asked
the waitress to bring the manager, she told me he/she was "unavailable"
without even checking. Paid the bill and left in disgust, and I am sure
I heard the waitress make a derogatory comment about us as we left. I
will never ever go back. Much better places to eat in the local area.

My boyfriend and I went to the Townhouse for our two year
anniversary. We were initially very impressed with the decor and
atmosphere of the restaurant. We were however a little shocked by the
prices. We both ordered the rib eye steak which cost £14.50 each
(without a side order). Did the portion size make up for it? No, we have
seen more meat in a McDonalds happy meal. We heard several people on
nearby tables make similar comments on the size and quality of the
meals.
That being said our waitress was very friendly and had a good knowledge
of the menu.

I went to the Town House with my wife on a Friday night and was
initially very impressed with the place. The staff were very friendly
and the decor is typical of this type of place (modern, Gastro-pub type
decor etc). The wine was great and the starters equally impressive
(Duck salad and the Goats Cheese) However we both ordered the Rib Eye
steak and were incredibly disappointed with it. Poorly cooked and both
pieces were of a very poor quality. This therefore put us off the rest
of the meal and we left shortly afterwards.
To be fair to the manager he knocked them off the bill and apologised
but I always tend to initially judge a restaurant by the quality of the
steak and it unfortunately failed badly.
My advice (given most other people's comments on this board) is to give
it a try but avoid the Rib Eye!! It really has the potential to be one
of the only really good restaurants in Solihull, it's just a shame we
came away very disappointed and struggling to recommend it.....

I've been there numerous times and it has never failed to provide great
