Ruckleigh is a good school!I was a pupil at Ruckleigh from 2002 to 2006! I absolutely loved it right to the the very end! I often think about the good times I had there and how the whole of year 6 cried at the last and how sad we were when said our goodbyes!

I attended Ruckleigh from I think 1992 to 1999. I then went to Edgbaston High School for Girls, and am still there now, sitting my A2 exams. Over the years I've managed to keep in and out of touch with several people. At the moment I'm very good friends with Sarah Boyle & Richard Brown and speak to them quite often. Recently I've been trying to 'track down' old friends, and started a Ruckleigh Group on MySpace.com . I hope by doing this it helps all of us to keep in contact with each other a bit better! If in anyone wants to get in contact, please do! xXx

1970's

I was at Ruckleigh School between 1979 to 1983 when Birmingham City was not doing so well. I now work in the NHS in Cheltenham. I am keen to hear from any students and staff at that time. I had some good friends, especially Asoka and Nell Macdonald. Remember those parties. I don't still have my old school uniform, except my cap, which never fitted then.

1960's

Started at Ruckleigh on Jan 1964.  Remember Carol Sketchley by name and have the same questions, what happened to Helen Rowe who moved to Switzerland?  I saw her once after she moved, at her Gran's house in Streetsbrook Road but nothing after that!  Have seen Claire Mills since we left school as we briefly worked in the same office at Land Rover but not since.  Would like to know what happened to Sally Gill and Gillian Degens though.  Remember Mrs Gaskell, Mrs Mahon and Mrs Arden?  Mrs Carr Smith was still there then, I think.  I am still the proud owner of a book I was awarded at the annual Speech Day held at the Civic Hall.  Remember school dinners with loathing and being hauled out to stand outside Head's door for something that wasn't my fault!  Missed out on keeping in touch because we moved to Lapworth and had to go to grammar school in Warwickshire.
Julia White (was Rogers)

I started at Ruckleigh in 1965 (age 7) and stayed until 1969. Many happy memories - loved every minute. Favorite teacher Mrs Haywood. Qualified as a solicitor in 1985 and run an employment law consultancy. Now live in Balsall Common with my two children and numerous animals. Would love to hear from anyone especially Helen Rowe who went to live in Switzerland and Claire Mills who didn't!
Carol Sketchley

I attended Ruckleigh School 1965-1968 starting at "Little Ruckleigh" on Warwick Road and then transferring to Lode Lane.  I remember Mrs Service with great affection and Mrs Hall and Mrs Packwood who taught at Lode Lane. Still in touch with Karen Parker and other people I remember include Kim Weatherhead, Claire Godrey, Clare Ball, David Crowdy to mention a few.  I am now teaching Speech and Drama at the school which is great.  Would love to hear from any contempories.  I wonder who still remembers the General Knowledge questions every week and Mrs Carr-Smith's table tests!? I used to live in Buryfield Road when I was a pupil at the school.  Now live with husband and family in Stratford upon Avon.
Sally Gray (nee Shepherd)

I was a pupil at Ruckleigh from 1964 to 1966 while my father was posted to Dunlop in Birmingham. I have very happy memories and would love to hear from any students and staff at that time. One of my favourite teachers was Mrs Gaskell and my best friend was Simon Derby. We lived at 185 Station Road Knowle and returned to Australia in 1966. I am now a solicitor in Melbourne, Australia. I still have my old school uniform.

1950's

Gosh - this takes me back! - I was at Ruckleigh from 1958 to 1962. Happy days - I can remember Ian Madeley, Vivienne Eccles, Joanna Forbes, Hilary Poutney, Neil Pinter, Eileen Russell, Richard Van der Bock, Sally French and some others where I can remember the Christian names but not the surnames! My sister - Caroline Merrick was also there. Amazingly she is still in touch swith one of her friends - Christine Tyler.
Teachers - Miss Mahon who smacked for something I did not do (forgiven now!) and Miss Madge and Mrs Cooper.
Great times - I remember howling the school down after an injection (after trying to say that I was exempt from vaccination!), also for writing on my undone home work that  'Jonathan had been unable to do the work as he had been sick' - signed by Mrs Merrick - needless to say i did not get away with it!
Jonathan Merrick

I came across the site by chance, without any intention of making contact, but saw the memories of the 1950's, which is the period my mother (Betty Harding) taught at the school.  Sadly, she died early last year.  I was also a pupil from around 1952-54. I still have  memories of the school in that period - first day; waving to the Queen as she went past one day; cricket; marching and quarter turns on the netball court play area (the sports master was an ex-sargent major I believe!); Mrs Carr Smith's big car and also of being somewhat in awe of her; appearing in the annual concert reciting a poem; along with other school grounds and classroom events.  Also, later, having 'busman's holidays' when I had to sit in my mother's classes on days she was teaching and my school was on holiday!  Regretably, I have long since forgotten most names, although I think I recognise some mentioned by others and I also still have a school photo.  Through my mother, contact was maintained with Mrs Carlton for many years and I am still in contact with Sheila Mahon (who taught me to play tennis after I left Ruckleigh).  Was it really over 50 years ago?
Peter Harding

Happy days! Yes - I do remember Gillian Penzer and know she is in Stratford. So glad to be in touch again Gillian. I too remember Joe Bunch, Valerie Hurst, Ann Fletcher, David Cross, Paul Fellows, Vera Norris, Helen Grove, Wendy Thompson and Wendy McDonald, Claire Kirk, Jenifer Clews, Eileen Purden, John Stratford, Naseem Khan, Pauline, Anne and Derek Wilshire, Marie-Ann Wreford and David Carr-Smith (Mrs Carr-Smith's son and former H.M.of Ruckleigh.) My Mama, Mrs Clarke, was teacher in charge at the "little Ruckleigh" and many of we girls went on to Malvern Hall together. My oldest and closest friend is Sue Longley now in Sussex and I see her regularly. I have a good many photographs and when my computer is behaving itself properly I will post them up!   Are you all really as old as I am or have you mysteriously stayed as young as I remember you? We really should have a reunion. What about it? 65 years is a long time!  Love to you all, Roma.
Roma Wreford-Clarke

I lived in Solihull until 1970. I went to Ruckleigh School from 1951 - 1958
and Solihull School from 1958 - 1964. I was on the Youth Council around 1960 when the infamous Hamish was youth officer. I ran a youth club in Solihull in the then Congregational Church Hall. Anyone from around that time who remembers me or any of the following? Bob Grayson, Hugh Joseph, Pete Bradley, John Pedricks (Pegs) Jackie Flavell, Sue Bailey, Sue Buleigh, Anthea Saunders.
Mike Beamish

I started school at Ruckleigh in 1942 & left in 1950. Have often wondered what became of some of my old friends. Joe Bunch, Roma Clark, Susan Longley, Valerie Hirst, Sue Wootton, Anne Fletcher. The teachers at the time were Mrs. Clarke, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs Deeley, Mrs Boocock. The head teachers were Mrs/ Carr-Smith & Mrs/ Dennett later to become Mrs/ Belgrave. I used to live in Broadoaks Rd. I now live in Stratford upon Avon.

1940's
I and my sister were at Ruckleigh school in, I suppose, 1940 when Miss Cartland was headmistress. I still have a school photo and can remember the names of several pupils on it.
