Have been to this pub quite a few times in the last few years with
my husband and different friends and never been treated as we were
today, there wasn't any big tables in the main eating area so we sat in
the bar as have done this before with children as long as we were
eating. we brought drinks while looking through the menu a member of
staff asked us twice in 15mins if we were going to order food when we
went to the bar 5mins later we were told to leave as they had two
complains about the noise...We then realised the bar staff really didn't
want 7adults and 2 children sitting in the bar area which is where the
manager told us to sit. We did leave straight away and went and had a
lovely meal in the assembly rooms where the staff were very cheerful and
didn't mind having children in there

Went here the other day with a friend. The large aggressive
female seems to have left but, their is a ginger haired woman who has
off handed attitude and likes to roll her eyes a lot. My friend and i
both thought what have we done to offend her we only asked for a couple
of coffees and two fish and chip meals. The food was excellent and the
young lad who brought it to our table was very polite and smiled. We
would go again but, think they need new bar staff in this pub!

Got you all beat. Used to underage drink there in 63, was 16 at
the time. I can't remember the Landlords name, probably my age now,
would throw all my mates out and leave me to finish my pint in peace.
Wish we had pubs like these profiled in the USA.

As a resident of Solihull myself and some friends decided to go
to the Masons Arms, we found the pub was surprisingly empty for a
Thursday night and then realised why - the staff were very unpleasant
and unhelpful and basically very rude - we witnessed a few other
customers complaining about the service they were receiving and the
rudeness of the staff - won't be going there again

I've been here a few times, the food was good value and the
drinks cheap. I'd been asked for my id a few times and never had any
problems, however the last time I went in I was rudely asked for my id,
and was then told to clear off because it didn't look like me. It was an
in date past port, with a relatively new picture. When I showed clear
annoyance the lady said 'enough of the attitude!' It was embarrassing
and unnecessary. A few friends have also mentioned how the staff have
mistreated them, even though they all had legitimate id and were
perfectly civil! I'll think twice before going in there again.

We used to call the room at the back the Ship when I went
there in the seventy's. A lot of those names that Kimmie mentioned sound
familer. How about Batch, Zonk, the Oche's Paul and Rick, Tin, Grub,
Val, Lee, Kay, Sheryl, Crissy and me julie Batch's sister.

Great place to start off on a Thursday/Friday night without a
doubt, good atmosphere, cheap drinks, plenty of talent, good music, what
more could you want to start the night off! Shame it shuts a 11pm.

Another excellent pub with a friendly atmosphere. This place
accommodates all situations, whether you want to stand at the bar with a
load of mates getting wasted or find a nice comfortable corner to sit
and read the paper. The pub has the best facilities in Solihull (2 sets
of toilets), lots of tvs and fruit and game machines. The food is
outstanding and I've never known anyone have a bad meal there. The drink
prices are cheap and they get cheaper in the happy hour. This place
would make a killing if it got a late licence.

Great place for
what ever you're after, watching the footie, pub lunches or just a good
old fashioned p*** up ('specially on sundays if you wanna get off your
face for under a tenna, or is that just cuz im a light weight?!). Plus
the female bar staff (and mykey!) are the hottest in sol! (not that i'm
biased or anything, they just are!) What more do you want??!

St Alphege's.....great times.....pity it's lost the old pub charm.

Anyone remember the "Wreck of the Espaniola" at the back of the
Masons? I had my 18th in there and drank cheap Black Velvet with Eric
Scadding, Clifford Pettit and Andy Barnfield. (1972). I used to
work at the George next door with my brother Richard (my Dad was the
Manager then) and we would frequent the Masons at lunchtime mainly, with
the Portuguese and Italian waiters who worked with us

Andy, I think it was Hispaniola, actually. Yes, I was there most nights.
Remember rocking to Gypsies Tramps and Thieves and loads of Slade. Of
course, Dave Hill lived in Bruteton Avenue then, next to my school. I
vaguely remember you weren't you the dark haired boy who fancied girls
in red tops?

This was the one place to go between 1971 and 1975. That was when "Lippo
Lowe" was running the place. With the lovely Simone in attendance and
superstars such as Solihull Rugby's one and only England player and
milkman (guessed who yet?) Regulars such as David Proctor, Nigel Tustain,
Bill and John Startin-Field, Dick and Richard Stait, Kim
Robinson-Colley, Claire Phillips, Sue Hill, Peter Edmunds et al. This
was the place to be and be seen before moving on to Squires (where Chris
Baker could be found) at Balsall Common for the night via the Cock Horse
at Rowington, the Punch Bowl at Lapworth and various other well known
hostelries. Surely someone must remember.

Great place. Spend the evening just chatting out the back, or start
off with a drink here on your way into Brum. Pints £1.50 during Happy
Hour before eight.
Much better than Bar Co (Bar Ho).

Masons used to be my 2nd home when Paul was in charge, unfortunately
this place has gone rapidly down hill, Its a place to go if you've had a
few to drink, then you don't really notice the Chelmsley Wood losers
jigging away to Kev music

Cheap as chips! Good atmosphere, especially for watching sporting events
such as the footy. Music is OK too, gets you warmed up before you hit
the
"clubs".
Flash
Used to be a great place but since Paul has left the place has gone down
hill, so get the Kev's and Shaz's out.
Andrew
How does this place afford to keep changing the Decor??!!! Didn't
realise the Victorian era was back in again.......Keep with the
times.....or sell the place to someone that cares!
Who Knows?
Still can't understand why Reggie (better know as Danny) left Bar Censsa
for the Mason's...well good luck to him anyway!!!
Jim
Danny (new boss) what on earth made you want to run the MASONS !!
Paul
A cracking place to go before a hard nights drinking. Plenty of talent
on a Sunday night and a good place to watch the Footy
Ben and Neil
Sunday's best night out in Solihull ... All made by the cheap drink in Masons.
Who else can compare?? Defiantly not the place across the road!!
Red & Reef
Rowley, Mikey and Mykey were the best barmen there, the staff have gone down but the
Masons just gets better.
Keri + Laura
I swear this place is like Kev and Shaz city, but the music bangs and they sell drinks for
£1.50 on a Sunday. Nice little beer garden for a Saturday afternoon. Good to watch a
footie game and bouncers are quite fit!
Its a shame Horse Head had to leave!!!!!!!
Sophie Peg
Cheap beer on Sundays - lots of Kevs! if you know what I mean.
Jon C
No trouble on a Sunday, I doubt Solihull Police would agree with that!
Has v nasty atmosphere at times but a lot too drunk to notice.
Simon G
Good place to meet up with your mates. Sunday nights seem to double as a youth club for
under 17's. I must be getting old.
James Brendon
Cheap beers on Sundays, although usually very busy.
The bouncers and staff know how to have a laugh and it is warm inside when the weather is
cold.
Hard House
Unbeatable on Sundays - cheap drinks and a good atmosphere. There's never any trouble
either!
Rosie S
Not so sure I can agree with Rosie. The place used to be buzzing...it's not really the
place to go in Solihull anymore, too full of geezers and, for want of a better word,
sl*p*r*s!
Claire Cooper
Situated opposite St Alphege church the Masons is a quiet pub by day but a lively and
enjoyable night out. A spacious and friendly pub with a small but pleasant beer garden for
those summer nights.
