1985 - 1989 - I was at Malvern Hall at this time and
enjoyed my time there. Interesting to see so many people on this site, I
would have thought Facebook would have made this defunked but maybe not?
Anyway drop me a line if you remember me, i was the one to in a brown
uniform....

Great to read up on how people are doing. Most posts are
positive which is always reassuring that life is ok for most. I attended
Malvern Hall 1983-1988 and did meet folk there I was very fond of. I was
in South forms I think - its such a long time ago I forget! Glad to hear
that Alison Brown is ok - Im assuming she is married but glad she is
well. Glad Alison White has found God. I remember Mr Maund, not aware
that he was praying greatly for us all but glad that's the impression
Alison White got. I remember being in a very small group called
Christian Union, meeting in a dark, dreary shed on campus which stank of
damp and moth balls. How could I forget that? I remember this only too
well. Does anyone know whether Miss Edbrooke the music teacher is still
around? That was an experience as well, its all coming back! I studied
music with Tim (Simon) Rycroft, Daniel's twin brother. Hope they are
both well and their sister. I cant remember many of the teachers - Mrs
Walters Mrs Jefferies, Miss Lawson, Miss Holloway, Mr Stapleton, Mrs
Roberts or Robertson, Mr Greenhalgh, Mrs Divett, Mrs Martin - all
relatively vague until my memory is prompted! In Bournville, renting,
working in mental health but studying criminal justice to eventually
take part in the preparation of court cases. I shall keep an eye on this
site now - its great. Everyone take care and all the best for 2010.

I attended Malvern Hall 1983-1988. When I left Malvern
Hall I went on to University and became a teacher. I later went on to
complete a Masters Degree. I met up with Alison Brown a few months ago
for coffee which was great. I met Dawn Moore in Sainsbury's Acocks
Green, she looked really well. I ended up in Solihull A&E and was looked
after by a lovely guy who was in the same year as me and in Alison
Brown's class who knew 'Mickey'? I met a relative of Daniel Rycroft at
a church choir meeting a couple of years ago. It's a small world. Does
anyone remember the R.E. teacher Mr Maund? Well, he must have prayed for
me because in 1998 I had a real encounter with God. I gave my life to
Jesus - some people call it 'the sinners prayer', well I said the
prayer; It definitely worked. I am now a born-again Christian, yes, one
of those Holy Spirit filled ones! I would love to hear from anyone else
that Mr Maund has clearly prayed for. Mr Maund - if you're out there? -
a big thanks! If anyone would like prayer for anything or to attend an
Alpha course, please email me.

Sharron Thompson
Hi, I attended Malvern Hall High School between 1979 - 1981 when I had
to go back to my home country Venezuela. My tutor was Mr. McCarthy, very
kind and gentle man who we used to play ticks on! I remember we were a
small class of 25 or so. Here is a list of people I remember: Christine
Jones, Annette Fell, Judy Smith, Julie White Jennifer Hunt, Suzanne
Hawkins (she lived a few houses down from school and used to horse ride
"Smokey"?), Martin Hughes, Nigel Keeling (SP?) and his buddy Warren,
David Collin, Jeremy Dickson, Jeremy Uphill, Stephen... my memory fails!
I used to play netball (Goal Defence) and I loved our PE teacher (young
lady). I was also in Gressworld (house). Remember Mr. Martin our
Classical Study Teacher? Please send me a note if you were in my class
or played any sports with me!!!
I now live in Boston, US. I will be in
England Dec. 23/03 thru Jan 05/04 so please drop me a line before then,
I would love to catch up!

Next reunion for the girls of 1971 to 1976 will be 2011 in October. Any old
girls who want to come, email me. I will be contacting people in 2010.
Have a great year.
Caroline Atkins (Bardsley)
Hi Heather and Caroline...and any other 1972-77 girls who remember Miss
Binks and queueing outside the Cartwright block for school dinners -
Chocolate Cracknell on Tuesdays - being lapped on the sports field by Penny
Flannery, those funny hockey huts in the woods, swimming lengths at the Lido
to raise money to keep the Turner painting which hung in the hall, the small
but terrifying German teacher who drove a VW beetle, guitar lessons with Mr
Collard and going on telly at Pebble Mill with Roy Castle, Miss Whareham and
The 12 Days of Christmas in full at the end of term in Dec., Adventure Days
when we naughty ones (Vicki, Mandy, Catherine, Lesley.) Deliberately got
lost in the Lickey Hills (or wherever we were), Miss Reynolds for cookery
and being made to sit outside the circle if you had forgotten your
apron...those piano practice rooms either side of the assembly hall & the
cellars full of rubble and amazing graffiti!
Sue

I was at MH 1970 to 1975. Mrs Cotton retired and Mr Greenhalge took over,
everything changed then I think. The 6th form was no more as the college
opened and boys were admitted when we were Y5. Dave Hill bought the house
next to school, his ego liked the idea I think. I live in Wales now but
would love to hear from any "old" friends.

Reunion Notice
Because of the change to the comprehensive system, three year groups left
school in 1974; this message is for the girls who joined Malvern Hall, in
their first year, in September 1968, or who joined that year group at a
later time.
I have contacted St Martin's School, at Malvern Hall, in Solihull, with a
view to arranging a 'Solihull High School' reunion. This would be for the
entry year September 1968 ~ classes 1 East; 1 West; Form 1.
I suggested that we would like to see the parts of the school that we knew,
particularly the old building and the hall. However, nothing can be
confirmed until they have more information from us.
It may be possible for us to get together at the school, itself, and to use
their refreshment facilities, but we cannot discuss or confirm arrangements,
until we have more details for them.
Costs, for the use of the school and its facilities, would depend upon
numbers, date and requirements. If we are going to do this, any money owing
would have to be paid well in advance of confirming the event, as I would
not be able to take responsibility for financing it and, without early
payment, anything provisionally planned would have to be cancelled.
I think it would better to meet up when the weather is likely to be good ~
perhaps June or July. However, they could not say what dates might be
available.
If we can have access to the school or the school grounds, but not to
refreshment facilities, maybe we could book something elsewhere in Solihull.
If we cannot use the school at all, then, again, we would have to choose an
alternative venue. (We could still walk through the park ~ weather
permitting!)
Sorry not to have anything clearer at this stage, but, would you be
interested in joining us for a reunion this summer?
Please let me know what you think.
E-mail: tricia_dm@lycos.com
Title@ Malvern Hall Reunion
And please pass on the message to other members of our year group.
Thank you!

I came across this site while looking for old photos. Nice to have a place
to say hello. I left Malvern Hall in 1977? That doesn't sound right for
some reason. In any event, I left those brown uniforms behind and was one
of the first girls at Solihull School. I now live in Alexandria, Virginia
and work in Washington, D.C. My sister, Michelle Blakeslee, was at Malvern
until 1981/82? I recently redecorated my living room using chocolate brown
and blue -- she and I are the only ones that see this as extremely funny.
Love to hear from anyone, and if in the D.C, area give me a ring!
Melise Blakeslee
I attended Malvern Hall in the late 70's early 80's when my family briefly
returned from New Zealand. Anyone remember??
Sue Blockley
I attended Malvern Hall 75-80, and I am interested in contact with anyone
of the same or the year above.
Katrina Salsbury
It's twenty years since I left and I've lost touch with everyone of you.
So for those who were in the first comprehensive year from 1974 to 1979 I'd love to hear
from you, I was in 'West' forms from yrs 1 - 5.
Dave Udale
I was at Malvern Hall School between 1972 & 1977, and then at
Solihull Sixth Form College from 1977 to 1980. I'd love to hear from any of my old friends
either from there or from Solihull School...
Heather Buckley
I was at Malvern Hall from 1971 to 1976. We hold a year reunion every
five years. If you search under Malvern Hall you will find my home page. We are still
looking for some girls from our year. If you have not had details for the last reunion
please email me
Caroline Atkins (Bardsley)
I was an inmate of Malvern Hall from 1969 to 1974, when I left to go to the
local Tech ( shock horror ! ) to do a two year foundation course in Art. I
was in the West forms, and only remember a few scattered names...Ruth
Lawson, Nicky Houghton, Penny Royle, etc,etc...Does anyone remember a
slightly loopy blonde girl who could really draw ? ( I was particularly fond
of Mrs Christ, our Art Teacher ) I also remember a very good school trip to
Italy with her and Mrs Moore, the English teacher, in charge, the poor
things ! ) Please get in touch if you do !
Wendy Pearson
I was at Malvern Hall between 1968 + 74, then on to the Sixth Form College for its first
year. I'm married to Keith, have 3 children and teach local history part-time. I organised
some reunions a few years ago; if there are any more in the offing, please get in touch.

Hi, I am looking for old school friends. I have lived in Malta for 24
years now.
I was at Malvern Hall School between 1968 - 1973 and then Solihull Sixth Form. I still
keep in touch with a couple of friends, but would like to hear from those I have lost
contact with.
Susan Maltwood
What a great place to catch up! I was at Malvern Hall school
between 1973 and 1978, then Solihull Sixth form college. I now live in Solihull, and
am thinking of organising a reunion. Would love to hear from anyone.
Amanda Copsey
Burman Road infants school 1965-1968, I remember Miss Rousseau whose
eyes went in different directions. She got married and we went to the wedding - she had
little white pom poms on everything.
Haslucks Green junior school 1968-1972. Mr Fox was still there, they were cigars he
smoked. Do you remember the big tin of quality street, if we'd been good he read out
our names in assembly and we lined up outside his study to get one. Miss Smith
taught us arts and crafts, a couple of boys once let out all her budgies. Miss
Vaughan tried to teach us Welsh folk songs.
1972-1979 on to Malvern Hall. Just had such fun, especially when the boys at Solihull
School were discovered. I especially remember the really hot summer of 1976 and
Martin Foster.
1979-82 Solihull Sixth Form College and gradually waking up to the real world
Karen Gill
We're hoping to organise another reunion for the class of 75. Last
year 20 of us got together for dinner and it would be great if we could get in touch with
more people for the next one.
Kate O'Leary
My name is Steve Fosbury, I attended Malvern Hall school between
1974-1979. This was the first intake of boys into the former girls school.
I would like to hear from anyone who was there at or about the same time.

1960's |

I attended Malvern Hall School from 1960-1967. My best memories of school
include playing tennis on the grass courts at lunchtimes with Madeline Evans
and Jacky Fewster, and French and Russian lessons with Miss James. I went
on to teach modern foreign languages in various schools, latterly a Special
School.
Margaret Spoors (nee Townend)
I was at MH from 1967-72..it has been lovely to see all the comments...I
remember Mrs Cotton, Miss Binks and Miss Wareham...also Mr Davis the French
teacher and Miss Lucas (we always used to cover the blackboard with silly
rubbish & hide the board rubber so that she would have to use her
traditional gown to clean the board!) It sounds very silly now but we
thought it was hilarious. I remember we used to try to dip the ends of the
girl in front's hair in the inkwells at the front of our desks...happened to
me a few times (we all seemed to have plaits in those days!)...left a
dreadful ink stain down the back of one's dress/blouse...mother used to get
very cross!! I also remember Miss Smith who used to scare me a little but I
did enjoy her lessons. She used to sit in front of us with her thick tweed
skirt, legs apart to display the most enormous pink directoire knickers (or
perhaps they were technically bloomers!!)
I loved playing tennis..still do. I remember Miss Wright (scary) and a
lovely pretty young games mistress who encouraged me play tennis in the
first place.
I always longed to be a prefect so that I could enter the hallowed potting
shed and wear the plaid tail thingy that denotes the prefect status. Sadly,
by the time I got to 6th form I was a 'form representative' and the new 6th
form common room had been built...just wasn't the same....!!
Hazel Lancashire nee Tomlinson
I was at MH from 1963 to 1968. I remember Miss Lucas, Miss Whareham, Miss
Smith but strangely enough can't remember the name of the lovely domestic
science teacher we had. She actually made school fun. I was once given a
whole day's detention on sports day by Mrs Cotton because a prefect caught
me taking a short cut across the hall (a mortal sin!) and then noticed I had
my ears pierced and was wearing the tiniest of sleepers. How I agree with
June Collier (nee Wilson) about Mrs C making us rebellious and having to
wear the awful hats! I have a photo of class 4west taken I think in 1966 or
1967, which is on the Friend's Reunited website. The teacher was Miss
Whitehead.
Sally Beattie (Voce)
I was at Malvern Hall 1960-1967. I saw the message from June Wilson (nee
Collier). I remember her well and all that she describes. I remember, too,
lots of time spent in the cloakroom while backcombing into "beehive" hairdos
went on before we left for home. My hair was no good for that sort of thing
(and still is not) so I was the one waiting. I am still in touch with
Denise Peake if she is interested. I have lost touch with Jane Toye and
wonder if anyone knows anything of her.
Linda Wilson (formerly Wilcox)
I was at Malvern Hall for only two years 1960-1962 but remember it very
well....Miss Lucas must have been the last latin teacher to wear a gown. My
best friend was Joanna McMillan and we are still great friends. I have an
autograph book with several names from that year!
Christine Ann Ray
Does anyone remember my mother (Margaret Stokes) who taught science (mainly
biology and chemistry) part time at MH from c1960 to 1977? She is still
alive (now 90)and well for her age. Do any of you remember the horrible
little boy (me) she would bring to school with her when my half term did not
coincide with hers? Some of you were very kind to me I remember.
Robin
Stokes
Never realised this site existed until now (March 2009). Brought back so
many vivid memories of school days - sports days when it was always hot and
sunny, and speech days singing our little hearts out to Jerusalem and making
sure that we didn't cut short the long notes just like Miss Wharam said!
I have many happy memories of school days 63-69. Miss Turner was an
inspiration and she would be delighted to know that my daughter has followed
in my footsteps doing French and in fact has gone one up on me as she is
currently studying at the Sorbonne in Paris for a year.
I always feel bad that I only kept in touch with a couple of people when I
left, but if anyone remembers me do email me.
Anne Black
I was there from 1962-67 when I left to take a secretarial course at Hall
Green Tech. We had moved to Kings Heath and the journey to MH, involving
three buses, was pretty awful. I remember the cellars well and playing cat
and mouse with Mr Brooks when we weren't supposed to be down there! I also
remember sitting up a tree at the front of the school smoking (unfortunately
it was level with the bedroom windows of the first house in Brueton Avenue
and the lady there took one look and promptly rang the school) They never
did find out who it was up that tree as we were long gone by the time they
came out to look for us. I remember Latin with Miss Lucas and Miss Richards
who was truly terrifying; loved German with Miss Whitehead and singing in
the choir with Miss Wharam. Yes, she did have an adult choir - it was a
mixed choir and I sang with them after I left school until 1978 when I moved
to Wales. I am in touch with Wendy Gurney and Jane Saxton and have
contacted Susan Nock and Judith Lyndon through Friends Reunited. I'm now in
Cornwall, working as a Teaching Assistant and also teaching English as a
foreign language. If anyone remembers me, please get in touch.
Marilyn (Waters) Lewis
Hello anyone remember me - I was there from 1961-1966 - I think I remember
Diane Burden ?
Joan Perry
Hello, I was there in 1967-68. I was teaching french as an assistant. My
name at the time was Weissend. I remember very well Mrs Cotton, who wanted
me to speak Oxford English!
Mrs Rowland was a great help. I even learned a little Russian with Miss
Nesta James. Does anybody knows where they are now?
Mireille Heinzle
I was at MH from 1960-1965. Mrs Cotton had a lot to answer for and made us
very rebellious unlike dear Miss Forster who graced the Hall with her
ladylike presence. No wonder we all took Xmas presents as always. Mrs Cotton
changed everything and who remembers those horrible plant pot hats and
boaters she made us wear?
I remember the orchard where we got the tuck shop apples, the beautiful
staircase, indoor and outdoor shoes and the smell of wet blazers in the
cloakrooms. So many memories. Who remembers Latin/Greek with Miss Lucas -
scary or what! Poetry with Miss Smith and her ruler! The freezing cold lido
in the spring (it would be called cruelty nowadays!) The boys from Solihull
School on the way to the bus-stop. Walking home 8 miles in the fog! Happy
days!
Bronwen Vaughan is still one of my best friends (still ginger and great
fun!) Janet Brown, Molly Yates and Denise Peake seemed to have vanished off
the face of the earth as I have tried in vain to find them, so anyone who
can let me know of their whereabouts please contact Friendsunited or this
site.
June Wilson (nee Collier)
I was at Malvern Hall from 1965 to 1968 does anyone remember me? I remember
Susan Mander, Liz Stewart, Joyce & Barbara the twins.
Barbara Foster (Stockdale)
Wow! only just discovered this site. How wonderful! A fabulous school;
I was so happy there from 1960 to 1965, when I rather stupidly left to go to
the College and do a secretarial course. Miss Forster would never have let
me do that without talking to me about it and my parents too, probably but
she had left a couple of years before and I learned afterwards that the
staff (notably Miss James, my French teacher, whose protégée I was) didn't
know about my silly decision until the September. The great Christmas
present rebellion? Yes! I was in form 4 then and June Collier had given me a
lovely turquoise eye shadow that was confiscated. We were all so furious,
especially at the prefects who had let it be known we could bring presents
and they would back us and then the Head Girl (Cherry? Berry? ) yelling at
us all in Assembly as we fumed about Mrs. Cotton`s evilness! And swimming
lessons in the lido. And buying apples in the orchard at break from a lovely
old chap with a pipe. What was his name? Barbara Young in the year above was
my best friend ever. I've lost touch with her now but would give almost
anything to be back in touch with her.
Colette Metcalfe (nee Winfield)
I was at MH from '58 to 1965 and would dearly like to contact Veronica
Ripley (with whom I sat on those hot rads. many a lunchtime singing
Francoise Hardy songs), and Lynda Campbell. I now live in France, possibly
thanks to Miss.Turner, who taught me French as a means of communicating, not
just as a "subject.
Sylvia Vernon, weren't you really good at sports? and Christine Tansley, I
believe that it was I who wrote (and played Jo) the Little Women play,
performed in the quadrangle!
Susan Broadbent
1959-66. Form 1 then West till sixth form (janus). Special friends Barbara
Walker, Linda Thorogood (now Bell), Gaynor Dunsbee, Caroline Mawse. I went
to teacher training college but abandoned it for journalism, and returned to
study age 50 to go to art college. Barbara Young and Pam Cooper seen to be
the only others from my year on this site. Where are you all now? I'm living
in Wales.
Roz (Rita) Brown (nee Nixey)
Hello Moira and others who have already posted on the 60s page. I was at MH
from 1962-69. Fond memories of Mrs Cotton, including the Christmas
rebellion as mentioned numerous times here, Miss Bullock, who sadly passed
away recently at the age of 100 - she was my house mistress, and of course
Mrs Moore. I am now living in the west of Ireland with my husband and 13
year old son. We grow vegetables and sell in the farmers' market. My
husband also teaches part time. I have travelled a lot over the years
including a stint of 9 years in Saudi Arabia. I was an English teacher in
Kuwait at the time of the invasion, but we had left for our holidays a week
before Saddam came in. I recently met up with my old friends Alison Cayless,
who has lived in Australia for many years, and Val Dryburgh, who is in
Cheltenham.
Dorothy
Farrell
I was at MH from 1959-65. I also remember the great Christmas Present
rebellion. Also:
Miss Whareham - took us to sing at Coventry Cathedral when it reopened and
rehearsed through many Jerusalem's; Miss Smith, English teacher who tried to
inspire us with her rendition of 'Loveliest of Trees the Cherry Now' by
rushing out of the Portacabin door, but later was disappointed that I'd
chosen 'Daffodils' to recite. Strangely enough I went to live in Wordsworth
country in the 19970's. Also remember the outdoor lido, finding the cellars
which went on for miles, the brown uniform with which you had to wear a
certain shade of tights and Clarkes shoes, the 154 bus to and from Shirley
and buying the latest Beatles mag on the way which made you have to run the
rest of the way thru Brueton Park.
Made a visit last year in the summer hols - a very nice Secretary let me in
and I saw that wonderful staircase in the entrance hall. I don't
remember many names apart from Linda Wilkinson and Colette Winfield I am now
in Telford after teaching in Cumbria and Germany.
Barbara Young (now Boden)
So where are the rest of the 'survivors' from the 60's? There seem to be so
few, yet at the time so many! I left in 1965, and yes, remember The
Applejacks, acorn fights, and of course, all the protests against Mrs.
Cotton. Love to hear from any of you out there. Just unearthed a photo of
the staff in 1962 - to follow shortly.
Pam Cooper
Oh what fun to read all your comments and all your memories. Yes I remember
the great Christmas rebellion with the whole school in a huge line along the
corridors waiting to see Mrs Cotton because we had brought presents to
school!! Also our head girl at the time speaking to us all in the hall
to end the rebellion. I was there 1960 - 67. I loved music and still sing in
a choir. I remember the old apple orchard and the sixth form common room.
Love to hear from anyone there at the same time.

Reunion.
I am organising a reunion for the 1968 intake to Solihull High School for
Girls in June 2007 and have confirmed a visit to Malvern Hall and lunch in
Solihull.
If you joined the school then, or joined that year group later, or taught
that year group, please get in touch!
Patricia Mason nee Neale
At Solihull High School for Girls: 1968-1974. In 2008, it will be 40
years since our year-group started at Malvern Hall. That could be a
good year for a reunion! What do you think?
Patricia Mason nee Neale
Looking at some of the names on this page brings back lots of memories: Miss
Foster, Miss Bullock, I went on to read History inspired by Mrs Cork, hated
music with Miss Wareham. Anyone out there from Form 1, 2 etc 1960-1967? I'd
love to hear from you.
Susan Thairs
I attended Malvern Hall from 68-74. I've lived in Canada for most of my
life since, and have lost touch with almost everyone. I'm particularly
interested in the whereabouts of Paula Hollings, but would be pleased to
hear from anyone in my school year.
Stella Groves
I am trying to find a copy of the form photograph for 1 west in 1967 or 2
west 1968 - can anyone help?
Kim Edmunds nee Colley
Anybody out there who was at Malvern Hall from 1964 to 1971 who
remembers me or Sue Arculus? We were talking about school when we met in Italy -
where Sue now lives. We'd love any news but as a 'year' I suspect we (and that
includes both of us) never really have turned up much to reunions etc.
So how grey are you now?? Do get in contact.
Sue Lotherington
would like to hear from anyone who started at Malvern Hall in 1961 and
left in 1966 after fifth year or in 1968 after the Sixth Form. Memories of Miss Forster's
retirement, Mrs Cotton and the great Christmas Present rebellion, The Applejacks concert
at the school and much much more. Hello to Judith, Sheila, Anne, Steve and Kathy
Moira Smith
I was at Malvern Hall 1958-65. I remember the Little Women play in 2nd year,
the choir at the Civic Hall opening and in The Dream of Gerontius, Miss
Forster reading from Ecclesiastes for Remembrance Day, the speedwell outside
the junior entrance, the slippery log over the muddy ditch, performing in
Alcestis in Greek...
Christine Tansley
Isn't there anyone from those glorious 60s? I was Liz Green, at
Malvern Hall between 1961 and 1966. I've lived in Canada for the last 30
years. Would love to hear from anyone from those good old days - students and
teachers.

Have only just discovered this website, what memories it has brought back.
No one has mentioned the summer dresses and the stiff underskirts we used to
wear under them which Mrs Cotton hated. She would pull them off you and then
hang them in the staff room and you had to go there at the end of the day to
get it back.I was there from '58-64 then went to work at Marks and Spencers
in Birmingham for a year until I went nursing in London. Have not been back
to live as I am now in Pembrokeshire. Can remember Lesley Smithson, Susan
Bailey, Susan Bewley, Susan Broadbent, Lynette Easthope would love to hear
from anyone especially if you have any photos.
Sheila
Ralph (Stokes)
My sister Jacqueline Weir attended in 1950s we lived next to the tennis
club, thats 95 burman road, does anyone remember Jackie?
Christine Weir
Have just read this page & it brought back masses of memories, does anyone
remember me? I was at MH from 1956-1961. I was great friends with Sue Brown,
Jane Hatton, Lyn Rix. Lyn was my bridesmaid but we have lost contact also
would love to hear from anyone of that era. I left MH & went to the college
of food in Birmingham, have been living in southern France for the last 9
years. I've often wished that I'd paid more attention to Miss Bullocks
French lessons! Yes I do remember Hilary Docker, please get in touch it
would be really super to hear from you. I was in Leewode house, Miss Bullock
being our housemistress.
Jacqueline Phillips nee Woolman
Trying to trace anyone who remembers Sylvia Pouncey who attended MH in the
early 50's. She was friends with Marie. Valerie, Barbara and Pamela.
Janine Knowles
I was at malvern hall 1952 to 1957. I would love to hear from Janet Askew or
Carol Berkeley. I remember Miss Wharum - music, Mrs Black history, Miss Paul
gym and country dancing. It was a lovely school with beautiful grounds. But
couldn't bear the cold lido we had to swim in despite the weather!!
Joan Ebdy
I attended Malvern Hall from 1951 to 1958. Just heard about this site from
Elizabeth Walker (Nye), and I'm really enjoying it! Been in touch with Leila
Nayman, Sue Levack, Elizabeth Walker, and recently, Elizabeth Glass and
Angela Regan. Hoping to hear from June Plummer soon. Would love to see
everybody!
Brenda
Johns
June Plummer I remember you and Diane Cooper (brilliant artist) and yes you
were naughty.......I am in touch with Brenda Johns (living in America) and
have just made contact with Elizabeth Walker. Have posted a couple of photos
on Friends Reunited site that you may remember. I have been living in
Cornwall since 1965 so unfortunately lost touch with everybody and have been
thrilled to find some of you old school pals on these sites. I too would be
happy to attend any reunions that may be arranged having missed all the ones
that happened as I had hidden myself down here. Many fond memories of
teachers. Remember Miss Smith english and geography we were all frightened
of her Miss Clarke french, Miss Groves science she used to check our shoes
(indoor or outdoor). Miss Wharum music and poor Miss Cheshire religion I
feel bad now about the way I used to misbehave along with everybody else
Miss Lucas latin, she said stop talking 32 times in a 30 min lesson! I often
think how privileged I was to attend such a good school I would say unique
school. Great to see you here
Leila
Nayman
I never attended MH myself but somehow ended up on the reunion page, as you
do. I idly perused the entries and read one posted by Christine Gatty in the
50's section. In her post she referred, amongst others, to Chris Bevan and
Miss Wharham. I thought I recognised Chris's name and checked with my wife.
I briefly knew her as it appears she was the same Chris Bevan who was a
friend of my wife's mother. Sad to report though Chris passed away 15.03.07.
The day before my wedding to which she and her husband and son were invited.
We knew Chris wouldn't make it as she had been ill for a long time with MND.
I can say that, in the short time that I knew her, she was a lovely person,
kind and gentle. I know she had been a good friend to my wife and her
parents too. My wife also (co-incidentally) offered the following
information- "The Miss Wharam referred to could be a reference to Margaret
Wharam who has a room named after her at Solihull Methodist church. She was
a chorister and I think there was a choir named after her too - which maybe
she ran?
Sorry to hijack your school page!

Anyone who attended Solihull High School for Girls , 1951 to 1958 ? I've
been reorganizing my library and found the Old Girls' Newsletter sent me by
Miss Forster in 1981. I've lived in the USA,---first in Mississippi, now in
Tennessee ---since 1963 , so I've lost touch with everyone. If you were a
pupil from '51 to '58 , you may remember me and my best friend Diane Cooper
as the terrors who never got to be prefects! Now that I have retired, I have
time to correspond. I visit my sisters in England / Wales every two years,
so would love to be informed of any planned reunions. I might even be able
to attend if any coincide with my being " over there". Regardless, I would
be very happy to hear from any of my classmates or teachers.

Hi June! I remember you very well - so naughty! And Di cooper of course,
complete disregard for school rules. After a lifetimes' living abroad am
back in Solihull where I am in regular contact with my old buddy Avril
Awad. Also see Mo Dingley. Sybil Brazier, Mo Atkinson, Sheila Harding &
Angela Reagan. Remember any of them? Many others live in same area. In
answer to someone else's query I was in the school play Little Women where I
played Amy. Susan Steele Beth.
Elizabeth Nye (Walker)
Can anyone please tell me if a Janice Bagland went to this school? I was
born in Birmingham and spend the first 7 years of my life in Bentley Heath
and immigrated to Tasmania when I was about 7yrs. My best friend was Janice
Bagland and I don't know where she went to school. We did go to Bentley
Heath school together and Dorridge Primary. If anyone knows her or where
she is now, please can she contact me.
Diana Brian
Does anyone remember my mother Elizabeth Carter (nee Wood) who taught
mathematics at Malvern Hall between 1951 and 1956? After leaving Malvern
Hall she was a full-time mother for 10 or 11 years (she had 4 children) then
returned to work part-time running a playgroup. She returned to teaching in
the early 70s at a school for children with severe learning difficulties and
retired around 1987. Sadly Mum died in 2004 having suffered from Alzheimers
for the last 5 years of her life.
Anne Murray
I attended MH during 58-63 and have very fond memories of the school. I came
from a very working class background, lucky enough to pass the 11+ and
benefited from such a fantastic education. I am now a teacher in London. If
any one remembers me I would love to hear from them.
Sylvia
Campbell nee Vernon
No, I didn't attend MH in the 1950's, but my wife Jill Bartlett was Head
Girl in 1959. I should just like to leave a message to those former pupils
who remember Jill that she sadly passed away in Aug 2004 after a long battle
against cancer.
Stephen Davies
I was at Malvern Hall between 1955 and 1961. I would love to hear from
anyone who may remember me! I am still in contact with Barbara Latham but
have not heard from anyone else.
Gill (Macey) Hamilton
I was at Malvern Hall 1956-61, Miss Bullock was my housemistress - I
made contact with her a few years ago and she is still going strong!
I'd love to hear from anyone there at the same time.
Hilary Docker, (now Taylor)
I was at MH from 1954 to 1959 and left in the lower 6th to go to teacher
training college. Someone might remember me as the one you never wanted in
your team in games lessons as I was totally awful at all sports. However I
could sing so was in the choir. I remember Miss Wharam playing a recording
of a Manchester children's choir singing Nymphs and Shepherds to show us how
not to sing "now now now". Mr Shaylor taught English, Miss Black was the
first person who made me feel at all interested in History, Miss Richards
was a strict but superb Latin teacher. Names I remember are Christine Bevan,
Penelope Marsh and Pat Parkes. I came to Hong Kong in 1977 with my family
and teach English.
Christine Gatty
I would love to catch up with anyone who knew me at Malvern Hall between
1954-1959.
My maiden name was Pauline Powles.

I attended Malvern Hall between 1941-46. The head mistress at the time was
Flora Forster. I have been in Canada since 1957 and have lost touch with old
school friends. It would be great to hear from some classmates two of whom
were Marlys Hodder and Renatta Heiderman.
Patricia Mary Greenwood (Harnisch)
I attended M. H. between 1948 -1953 but redid one year so became part of the
1949 intake. When I was asked whether I liked school. I always replied "I
love the grounds". I would love to hear from people who attended at the same
time including Pat Price, Heather Wagstaff (nee Bolton) and Hazel Stephens.
Hazel was my Bridesmaid in 1960 and I would love to see her at my Golden
Wedding Celebration on this 20 Feb,2010. I am in touch with Margaret Coleman
(nee Bloxham, a triplet). A short while ago I produced a book entitled "Go
Home You Miners". It begins in the Gt Depression with a unique Back to the
Land Scheme. My miners and shipyard workers come from the North East and
South Wales.
Pamela Dearlove nee White
I was there from 1943 till 1950. I now live in California but spent a recent
holiday in England and was able to see Rhoda Lewis Florence, Helen Gane
Fairley, Julia Dufty Cruxton, my sister Mary (Billie) Hill (Carr-Gomm), and
speak to Ann Kirk Edwards.
Jennifer Williamson (nee Hill)
I attended Malvern Hall from 1946 to 1951, the third year at Tudor Grange
(now college). The Malvern Hall premises were having extensions at the time.
I remember the Dyche sisters who also went to St. Margaret`s junior school I
believe. I often wonder what happened to of my friends from those happy
days. I was not the cleverest pupil but I made friends easily and I hope
some one will remember me and get in touch.
Jean Linforth now Brough
I have just found this site and wondered if there are any girls left of my
years 1941-1945 Sadly lost touch, never joining the Old Girls, but remember
Miss Forster well, also the bomb falling on the back of the house. Some
names are Honor Pratt, Jean Crawford, Joan Richardson, June Bragg, ?
Goodfield Is anyone out there - I loved my days at MH and lived in Park
Avenue
Pam Fenwick (Skeffington)
I'm trying to trace anyone who remembers my Mum, Sylvia Pouncey and her
friends were Marie, Barbara, Valerie and Pamela. Attended MH from 1947 -
1951/2 before moving to Kent. It would be great to hear from anyone who knew
her.

Hello Beryl Cartwright, did you have a sister/relative J(G)ill Cartwright,
who was definitely a prefect and possibly Head Girl when I was there in the
40's. My two cousins Betty and Sheila Johns were there in the 30's.
Patricia (Johns) Fletcher (Dec 2008)
Have only just discovered this site, with the help of my youngest sister
Brenda, who followed Norma, who followed me to M.Hall. My two cousins Betty
and Sheila (also Johns) were already there when I arrived in 1944. The four
houses come to mind - Greswolde, Ulverley, Longdon and (mine) Leewolde -
which always seemed to come last! I remember the names listed in the 40's
(Jill Hunt, Corine Cotterell and Sheila Thake - tall with red hair,
Sheila?). Names from my own (East) class I seem to recall as Avril Horne,
Judith Ingham, Heather Bryan, Barbara Moore, Barbara Matty, Barbara Hodgetts
(who lived on a farm and used to cycle MILES to school daily), Angela
Fisher, Anne Kirk. My old school photo is with my two sisters in the USA,
but I daresay if I looked at it again I would recall many more names.
Exchange visits to France accompanied by Miss Wareham, the music teacher.
After leaving school in 1948, starting work, spending two and a half years
in Australia, returning to the UK, leaving for S.Africa and bringing up a
family of four, I returned to the UK and at the age of 75 am lucky enough to
still be working. I live in the south of England. Anyone out there???
Pat
Fletcher (Johns)
I was at M.H. from l942 to 1948. I remember Miss Foster and Miss Whareham
very well, especially her voice and riding her bicycle. I remember Eileen
Price, Margaret Joynson, Stella Gurney, Rosemary King, Eleanor Harbridge.
Also the George Hotel in Knowle where we had our end of year dance and I met
my husband John. We emigrated to Australia in l962 with four children.
Evelyn Bowles now Fletcher
I'm clearing out a pile of stuff from my Mum's home, and have found a little
pile of photos. I think they're from her class at school, but I could be
wrong. She was born in 1931 (so school 1942?) and her name was Jean
Shirley. She was among the girls involved in cleaning up the Manor House
- I took her there a few years ago, and they still have photos up of the
girls cleaning!
The photos I have that are named show: K Hammond, Stella Gurney, Royal King
(?), Valerie Harding, Margaret Joyson, E Price, A Winnney, J Boxhall, Ann
Sheila and Jock (Jack?) (in Telephone House? - could be relatives)
If any of these names mean anything to anyone, I'd be more than happy to
pass the photos along to you, and you can see how many you can trace! Thanks
Kathy Smith
Anyone who knew Iris Poole, probably from 1939-onwards??
Darinda Barnard
I was in the same year as 'Titch' Dyche, Angela Willoughby, Claudette
Freeland, Wendy Ingram ...see, I remember a few names! And Beryl Holding
lived around the corner - remember the badminton Club? I have lived in
Canada since 1957, presently in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Have lost
contact with everybody, so anyone seeing this and remembering me I'd love to
hear from you.
Jill
Hunt (Pritchard)
I attended Malvern Hall between 1945 and 1950. I remember Miss Forsters
favourite tune was Nymphs and Shepherds because of the words This is Flora's
Holiday, Flora being her name. If anyone remembers me please contact me.
Corinne Cotterill
Its great being able to contact old school friends. I attended Malvern
Hall between 1944 to 1949, and have been in contact with Beryl Holding
thanks to this page. I live in Canada and also would be interested in
hearing from anyone who remembers me.
Sheila (Thake) Phillips
I would love to hear from anyone who was at Malvern Hall School with me
1944-1949. I have been in the U.S.A. since l962 and have lost touch with old school
friends.
Beryl Holding
Pamela, Angela and Mary. The three Dyche sisters all in Longdon, with
Miss Baker as our House Mistress. Pam was clever, Angela was pretty and I was a little
scruff known as Titch. Although I was naughty, I loved school and never wanted to leave.
Spent a wonderful weekend a few years back; school reunion which included a Memorial to
Miss Forster. Angela and I went. A Dinner on Friday at the George.
Saturday, well what can I say, it had everything. A rehearsal with Miss Wharem (just the
same), shouts of 'Oh, it's Titch, you haven't changed a bit'
I think our generation, (the ones starting between 1945 and 1948), were the jolliest and
the noisiest. My niece Katie King and her friends ( who also went to M.H) couldn't believe
it. Anybody there at that time? Then Sunday was the Memorial were we sang Jerusalem and
read Corinthians. Happy, happy Days.

I was there from September 1933 until July 1940.What a great school
academically! I started in I West and left in the Upper VI after taking
Higher School Certificate. However did such a good school close?
If anyone has a School Photograph 1934 -1938 would love to have a
copy. I got the 1939 photograph in a CD and have it displayed on my
sitting room wall. Good wishes to all ex-pupils who remember Miss
Forster and the staff of those years.
Elaine Partridge nee Condry
Am I the only one left? I was there in 1934-38 ! Have mainly
lived abroad. Have now retired to UK after spells in Kenya and Malta.
Would dearly love to hear from any 'old friends'. ( Jeanne Nock. Dianna
Dewhurst. Hilda Haines.) Happy memories
Marjorie Cooke
Does anyone remember my mother who attended this school. She used to
live in Dorridge. Her father Cyril Cartwright was a timber merchant. My
mother Beryl immigrated to Tasmania in mid 1950's
