If you like eating at The Malt Shovel, and WE DO - regularly, then
you will LOVE eating at The Cross at Kenilworth. Similar atmosphere and
prices but truthfully -better food! Run by former manager of Malt Shovel
and a former Malt Shovel chef - absolutely outstanding menu and service
- a gourmet experience not to be missed! A bit of a drive but well
worth the effort. Otherwise, stick to The Shovel! Best eating place in
Solihull by far.
Favourite Meal: Have tried them all - love them all!

The Malt Shovel has always had a good reputation and after having an
excellent Christmas lunch there last December, I insisted that my
husband took me there to celebrate my 50th birthday. Did a round trip of
30 miles only to be told as the restaurant wasn't busy it wasn't open
that evening even though we had booked. What excellent customer service!

Having read the other reviews I can only assume that there are two
Malt Shovels in Barston - our meal was very bad indeed. Although
generally well presented we found that the food was bland, poorly cooked
and very disappointing. We really did not enjoy this dining
experience. The only plus point was that the wine was good

Had a fantastic boxing day meal, followed by a excellent evening
disco. I have eaten here many times in the past 12 months and never read
a review on the place. Try it you will not be disappointed.

Great Food but it's a real pity the staff allow smoking in the
restaurant. It's the one thing guaranteed to spoil the evening. I wont
be back until the No Smoking Ban is in force.

We've been here a few times, most recently for my dad's 70th
birthday get together, when we booked the restaurant. The whole
place has a lovely atmosphere and it seems that careful attention has
been given to every detail, from the decor to the food itself. Even the
gardens outside are thoughtfully laid out and well cared for, with all
the plants thriving, which is rare for a pub garden. All of us
thoroughly enjoyed our meals in an attractive and comfortable
restaurant. The food was excellent and the service very good indeed.
I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a really enjoyable meal
out in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

My husband and I visited the Malt Shovel for the first time on our
4th wedding anniversary. Many of our friends recommended it and said we
would love it - they were right! It is quite pricey, but you pay for
quality! The service was excellent (we went on a Thursday evening), we
weren't rushed and just relaxed and enjoyed our evening. Food was
outstanding and we had a wonderful evening together. We don't normally
venture out of Solihull, but we didn't realise it was only 5 minutes or so
in a taxi from the centre of Solihull. We would definitely go back here
again for a special occasion and are looking at taking some friends here
in a few weeks because we were so impressed.

They just want to come back time after time.

Classy pub with top notch food (try the fish) and good beer. All this
comes at a
cost, but you are paying for quality.

Had a great meal the other Saturday, my sister was over here from France
she thought the food was superb also. We like the Malt Shovel for a
drink on a Sunday, my mate and I cycle ten miles to get there. Its worth
it!.

The best 'gastro' pub for food in the area; beats the others hands down.
A wide choice of dishes available and a quality, great value Sunday
lunch.

If you have eaten at any of the other gastro pub's in the area but not
tried here yet what are you waiting for ? Easily the best food at any
pub in Warwickshire whether you eat in the bar or restaurant. The
cooking and service here is what others should now aspire to.

Excellent food - best in the area, and most expensive, but you get what
you pay for. pub can fill with smoke in the evenings. but go its great.

First class in every possible respect. Simply the best pub dining experience you could
imagine. It may seem a little expensive, but after you have eaten there, you will realise
what exceptional value for money it actually is.

The best food in the Solihull Area. Very busy at lunchtimes and weekends. Bit pricey,
typical 2 course meal costs between 20 and 30 pounds.
