Ahhh good times, i attended lode heath 2000-2005 and what can i say, i
was never a star pupil or well known, but i had fun. Days full of
winding up the teachers hanging around being a geek with Jim and Ed etc.
though i have long since grown up, changed my name and gone on reckless
adventure to scotland, on my own, with no money and no place to stay, i
wont soon forget the things we got up to and alot of the wonderful
people. im now living in edinburgh with my fiancee Sineand and am loving
life, i hope everyone else has found some happiness aswell
Christian Phoenix

Hey, i went to Lode Heath between 99-04. Even though the generally
concensus of the teachers was that i always wanted to be in trouble, I
enjoyed my time at Lode Heath. The teachers always pushed us to get the
best of grades, sometimes to the point that it got annoying, but thats
school! They had a great football set-up there, led by Mr Wilson, which
i loved, and im still playing now, with everything hes taught me
carrying me along. I must admit that i do miss being at the school. I
cant think of much else to write, so all im going to say is that Mr Juby,
Mr Burton, Mrs Sanders and Mr Moorhead are all legends!
Nathan Neale
Hey all, went to Lode Heath 1997-2002 and to be honest I kinda miss the
place (never thought I'd say that!) I'll always remember the skiing trip

to Mr Hone, cos without him I wouldn't be where I am today. Cheers Nicky

yeah i left LHS this year CLass of 2004!!!!! its a kool school. I know
people in other schools which are nothing like LHS. Your encouraged (i
obviously aint an A* English student) to be independent and be look
after yourself and be an individual. The staff are brilliant and most
will bend over backwards to help a pupil out kids are cool there
specially that great bunch that just left hey Amita and Hailey. the
schools is going from strength to strength and is now finally a sports
college so its only down hill from there lol i expect to see great
things happening to the school in the future!!!!
Kris Fenn
WOW!!! I never thought that I would be doing this, but I have seen what
my friend in my form has written and I thought that I would follow
suit!!! Well I have left this year, 2004, and currently sitting exams! I
was proudly the Head Girl :) and I just want to say what a fantastic
school Lode Heath is. There are still teachers there which I am sure you
have all heard of: Mr Czepokojc (I still cannot remember how to spell
his name!) Miss Costley, Mrs Ram, Mr Tilley, Mr Bates the technician
that is with Mr Bates (I never found out his name!) Mrs Worrall, Mrs
Nickless, Mrs Thompson, Mrs Beadsley, Mr Mellor, Mr Rogers, Mr Hone
(still supporting the Wolves!) Mrs Hemming and I cannot think of anyone
else. The school has really grown and gone from strength to strength. I
am certainly proud to be a Lode Heath pupil!
Amita
Gungaram

I attended Lode Heath 1968 to 1973. Just going through the site has
brought back so many memories. Names I had forgotten. My first school

off by Mrs Mansfield for drinking cider in the street, it was in fact
apple juice....honest! Who could forget the SS Uganda in 1973.Annette

Hi i was at lode heath from 1977 to 1982. We had some good times and bad
times at the school, the teachers where ok. I live in Birmingham now but
go past the school at times when i go to the town centre, it has changed
a bit from my time there, i was amazed that they are or have built on
the famous quad, no one ever put foot on it or you was in for it.
Reading through the friends site a lot of memories come flooding back,
every one has done well for themselves. It is mad how the time has
just flown by and every one has moved on in life (as you do), there was
only one or two teachers names i recognised when i read through this
page, up until i got to the 80's and below. I think now there is only
one of them left at the school and that is Mrs Spooner (cookery), can
some one let me now if she is still there please.
I hope the school keeps going for many more years to come, it was a
pleasure to go there, and it is true what Mr Jones (maths teacher) once
said to us "school days are the best days of your life". Never a true
word spoken. Don't be shy please get in touch if you remember me.
Elaine Seabury (now Britt)
I would love to hear from anyone who might remember me or my sister

between 1967 and 1972. I lived in Leam Crescent at the time, and was one
of the first students to attend Home Economic classes at Lode Heath, a
long with several others. We did just cooking lessons, and later on
would invite one of the teachers to come to lunch, and we would prepare
and cook a two or three course meal. I was 50 earlier this year, and as
I live 600 miles away now in northwest Scotland, it would be fantastic
to hear from anyone who knew me all those years ago.
Christopher Cooper
I left Lode Heath in 1977. Mr Wylds was Headmaster, Mrs Dolby the
Deputy Head. Miss Partridge/Mrs Mansfield games teachers. I was in the
netball/hockey/swimming/athletic teams. Some names I recall are Loraine
Brown, Bev Allen, Karen Broome, Sharon Redmond, Sue Bradley, Dawn
Hadley, Elaine Crags, Keith Green, Martin Skip, Paul Harrison, Lorraine
Cox, Sharon Perry.
Karen Broome and myself recently met up with Mrs Mansfield (games
teacher) for a chat. She hasn't changed much. Karen and myself 'STILL'
play competitive netball and Mrs Mansfield came to watch. 'Thank god we
won and played well! It would be great if anyone would like to meet up,
just send me an email and I will try to make arrangements to include Mrs
Mansfield and possible a few other teachers (seen a few still at the
school).
Lynn

I was a teacher at Lode Heath from 1971 to 1978 and have very good
memories of the whole period. I'd love to hear from anyone that
remembers me. I recognise many of the names on this page.

chat email back to me

I attended LHS 1970 - 75 anybody remember me!!
Phil Thomas
Hi Sue, nice to hear from you. I was also
surprised that there aren't more of us on this site. I haven't seen many
since school at all. I saw Duncan MacArthur years ago but that's about
it. Funny though, I've seen loads from Ulverley Infants/Juniors! Hope all
are well and that the big 4-0 doesn't get too traumatic. PS: I've just
done the London Marathon but its got nothing to do with being 39 :-)
Ian Bowdler
1975-80, Miss
Lunn's Year Group. Now living in Japan.
Don Peters
I was also at LHS 1975-80, what are you up to in Japan Don? I've been
around but now working in Brum, living back in Olton with wife & 2 kids. Anyone else
out there from our year?
Ian Bowdler
I went to Lode Heath between 72 & 79. Anyone out there remember me?
I was a bit of a nerd with national health glasses. Still living in the midlands -
Tamworth. I'd love to get in touch with any old friends to share old anecdotes.
Ian Richards
Hi everyone from way back. I certainly remember Don he lived just across the road from the
school, fancy moving so far away but still thinking of your school mates. There must be
loads of us still in the Solihull area, I thought I would be one of the last to look up
and log on, but it has surprised me that only a few of us from our year have thought to
contact this site. We are all reaching that awful age 40 and I thought it was time for a
reunion, what a laugh that would be. Graham Powell was in Sainsbury's in Shirley a few
years ago he hadn't changed a bit. I wonder what happened to Denise Kirby anybody out
there who remembers me please write in.
Sue (Fisher) Turton
Neil Prince has produced a website with lots of information on Lode Heath School.
If you attended between 1974-79 then this one is especially for you.
www.lodeheath1979.fslife.co.uk
For all you pupils who left Lode Heath in 1979, the reunion has been set for 16 November
2002. Email me for details, please.
Denise Bailey
I left Lode Heath in the year of 1979 - Alison Morris and I are still in
touch and are trying to organise a reunion next year (2002) probably November. We can all
celebrate our 40 years together. Please contact me if you were in our year!
Denise Bailey
I was wondering if there is anyone out there who attended Lode Heath from
Sept 74 until leaving in the summer of 79?
If so where are we all and what are we doing if anyone recognises the name drop me a line.
Mike Parr
Like a few of the people around I was at Damsonwood Infants, then
Coppice Junior until 1978, then Lode Heath, but left in late 1979 to move down to Kent.
I used to live in Rowood Drive, opposite the shops. Anyone vaguely recollect me? If so,
get in touch.
Mark Thorne
I was at Lode Heath between 1973 and 1978 if anyone has any fond memories
or not so fond I would love to hear from you. I left Lode Heath in 1978 and went to
Solihull Tech. I moved away in 1980 and now I am back! If anyone remembers me please get
in touch.
Sue Webb
Left LHS in 1974ish, I think! Married for the second time, one son,
Mitchell and we still live in Solihull. At the time of writing this I am in Calgary,
Canada with Carolyn (Thomas). Still keep in touch with Jill Tonks, who has the memory of
an elephant and drives us nuts remembering being born!!! Also still see Fritz, Steven
Allen, Denise Cassidy to name but a few who all live in roughly the same area in Solihull.
If anyone out there remembers me, get in touch. See ya.
Debbie Smith (Pritchard)
I attended Lode Heath between 1973-78. Mr Wylds was the
Headmaster, Mrs Dolby the Deputy Head (I think). Also remember Miss Partridge for
games and Mrs Mansfield, Miss Wing and the very tall Mr. Hudson. Friends I remember
were Sue Charman, Louise (had a twin brother Andrew) Sandra Goldsmith, Val Collins, Val
Silo. I also remember Mr Tilley (he was my form tutor).
Sharon Evans
I went to Lode Heath between 1972 and 1977 and was in the school band playing the trumpet.
My Brother Michael who was younger than me played the French Horn. These days I live in
the North West.
John Gaskell
I left Lode Heath in 1977 and would like to hear from anyone who
remembers me. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Geoff Brewer and Martin Skipp? If so
please drop me a line.
Trevor Botting
I was at LHS from 1972-77. I work for English Nature in Peterborough on
invertebrates databases and the Red Kite reintroduction project. I am married to Sarah and
we have a 7-year old daughter called Katherine (Katy). If anyone remembers me please get
in touch. I did the sound and lighting for "The King and I". I also recall the
"Hobson's Choice" production. Hello to John Gaskell, Tim Forsyth and Ian
Richards! I've been in touch with David Capendell in Australia and Derek Tearne in New
Zealand. I've also joined "The Friends of Lode Heath" run by Paul Tilley, a
teacher there since 1971. I've found out where other old friends are scattered too.
Christopher Monk

Nearly all the people in the photo left Lode Heath in 1977
The girl at the back on the left is Dawn Bates, her friend with the bottle is Ginny
Bricknell. The two boys at the front, left are: above - John Gaskell, below - Mark
Preston. The boy with the big hair and glasses is Mark Wilbraham. The boy at the back with
red eyes is Gerard Toney. The grinning boy at front right is Nick Lynes. The couple at the
back are Sarah Batchelor from the Sixth Form College and Chris Monk.
I would love to hear from any ex-pupils who were at Lode Heath from 1971 to 1977.
Chris Monk
I went to Lode Heath during 1971-76 - and had a good time - teachers that stick out are Mr
Meredith (sorry we gave you such a hard time but I'm sure you enjoyed it really), Mr
Tilley, Mr Martin and Mr Naylor( the best English Teacher I ever had).
I now live in Australia and am married to one of their Shelia's - if anyone remembers me -
drop me a line
Paul Trotter
This is a great site. I was at Lode Heath from 70 to 75 & I remember
all the things Garry Knox mentioned. The guy
on the bike was called Billy.
Rosemary Barton
I attended Lode Heath school from 69-74, I have been to two reunions for
our year, but would be interested in hearing from anybody either from my year or other
years that might remember me.
Jeremy Carrington
Hi I was at Lode Heath 69-74 I never came back after the GCSE's etc as I
took up full time cycle racing for the Solihull CC. I now live in Northumberland, been
married twice and have developed a business in reproducing vintage guitar pickups see www. tonyburns.co.uk So Colin
Bell if you still have that guitar you built in Boney's woodwork lesson drop me a line.
There were six Burns went through the school Jim, Sally, Steve, Geoff and Joanne. Jim is
in Scotland, Sally Australia, Steve New Zealand, Joanne Devon, Geoff Isle of Jura. I'll be
happy to pass on messages.
Tony Burns
I live in Canada now, and would like to know of any friends from Lode
Heath High school or friends around Solihull who remember me from school in the early
70's. I lived on Knightsbridge Rd, Olton, until I emigrated in 1977 to Toronto, Canada.
Christine Jennings
I attended Lode Heath between 1969-1974. I would love to hear from
anyone who remembers me.
Nigel Wood, Dave Garnowski.
Peter Cleaver
Does anyone remember the school play "Hobsons Choice' in the summer
of '74. I attended LHS from 1969-74 and remember Colin Bell (my mother still knows his),
Ian McAlear, and others. I used to work part time at the Barley Mow pub bottling up at
weekends. I used to regularly 'hang' at Malvern Park and the Captain Locker. I went
out with a girl called Karen Parkes who also went to Lode Heath. Drop a line if you
remember me.
Garry Knox
I went to Lode Heath from 1968-'73 and had a ball - many happy memories.
I organised a couple of school reunion about 5 years ago and managed to find 120 ex-pupils
out of 160 and several teachers. It was a fantastic night and a few of us diehards still
see each other - Tony Sammons, Martin Carrington, Kim Roberts, etc. If anyone from our
year wants to add their name to the list for any future reunions, please e-mail me. I have
tried to e-mail Julie Millward, who has an entry listed in this section, but with no
success. We'd love to see you Julie (Kim would just pass out) please get in touch.
Nicki Lawrence
I attended Lode Heath from 1968-1972. Before that I went to Greswolde
infants & Juniors. Names that come to mind: Mick Parsons, Martin Stokes, (never got
any work done when they were around but always a good laugh). Worked in Solihull after
leaving school. Married Carolyn in 1977, we have two children. Moved to Calgary Canada in
1995. If anyone remembers me drop me a line.
Rob Baldwin
I left Lode Heath in '72 (I think!) - certainly missed the parties!
Remember all names (pupils & teachers) mentioned by Ian Sill and Mick Blizzard.
Was photographed for Solihull News after winning a talent contest singing 'There's
A Hole In My Bucket' (yes really) with Lyn Snipe and Wendy Bartlett. Latterly I used
to get into all sorts of trouble with Dale Rice, Kim Roberts and Jo Parker. Jo lived
just outside the school gates and I shall never forget the patience of her dear Mom
putting up with a load of us trooping round there lunch times. Other names
remembered (in same year) - Tony Samms, Martin Carrington. I'm sure I remember Rob
Baldwin too - but difficult to place with no pictures. I don't have any school
pictures from that time - anyone able to share??
Just to say I changed my email address and forgot about changing it here!
If you remember me get in touch. Don't be too offended cos I am pretty lazy with the
emails these days but promise to reply. Does Kim Roberts still live here!!?? Are you still
a 'Robbo' and not married yet. Do you remember Anne Carmicheal and does anybody hear from
Dale Rice?
Julie Millward
I remember your name Ian Sill, can't quite place you, but I love the web
site. I lived on Knightsbridge Rd also and knew the Agnew's very well , especially John,
June's brother. I am planning a visit to Solihull between May 4th
till May 18th 2004. If
anything is happening , please let me know. Thanks... Keep up the good work. I really
enjoy the website.
Christine Lee
I attended Lode Heath from 67-71. Great to read about the reunion! - really scary seeing
these old faces (some early girlfriends!) for the first time in 35 years! Fond memories of
the School and seeing all the names was a major down memory lane. I'm now living in
Auckland NZ now (have been since '88). Look forward to hearing from folk. I still need
counselling for those crucial years of my early life - esp standing outside Mr Lunnon's
office for creating trouble. Spot ya.
Steve Burns
I attended Lode Heath from 67-71. I remember the names, Pete Moulton,
Roger Duckett, Andy Hodkinson, Andy Armstrong, Martin Dalman, Dave Hancock, June Agnew,
(who lived in the same road as me), Colin Southeran?, Martin Goodwin, Steve King - can't
think of anymore at the moment. Teachers - Twiggy Harris (history and commerce), Miss
Partridge (games), Miss Dunn (RE), Mrs Dibble (English), Mr Chiddler (geography), Wally
Waldron (games and terror).....wow...those names !!! I know that Mr Waldron is still
about, I have seen him at Dovehouse Lane shops a few times over the years. I was a little
short fella with glasses. Hated Rugby and Cricket but loved Football. Still living in
Solihull.
Mick Blizzard (Blizz)
I was also at Lode Heath from 67-71and remember your name Mick (did you
used to look like the lad that did the Milky Bar Kid adverts?) I lived in Lode Lane
opposite the Olton Hall pub. Names that come to mind are:
Ian Tait (later best man at my wedding), David Owen (RIP), Peter Moulston?, Rodger
Dukkett, Janet Thatcher. Teachers were, Bob Hacket (science), Gibbo (metalwork), Mr
Blackmore (woodwork) Miss Wake (maths), Mrs Horner (ironing and floral wallpaper design)

Norman Green sports Hall...Seem to remember one at the Civic Suite with Emperor Rosco with
music by the Likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Edwin Star (War, What is it Good
For).
I now live in Cheswick Green and produce this website in my spare time.
Ian Sill

what a blast from the past I remember all the teachers listed but
remember none of the pupils listed my best friend was Valerie Ashworth,
but do not know her whereabouts. If any one does would love to
hear from her
Sandra Dennis (nee Wilson)
Finally managed to use a computer and fell upon this web site. Found it
very amusing reading the comments and recognise a lot of names. Left in
1972, got married left Solihull had three children, got divorced moved
back home to Solihull!!!! Any Comments?
Keith Poulter (Polly)
I attended Lode Heath between 1962-1967. Classmates and friends included
Bob Brakewell, Mick Keen, Chris Gifford, Adrian Cartwright, Brian
Reeves, Richard Penson and Phil Robinson. Any of you chaps out there? Do
get in touch. I was Head Boy for two years, must have been 1965 and
1966. If I remember, Joy was Head Girl. Elizabeth Brightling are you
still out there? You were two years older. I spent one year in the
"sixth form". Seem to have spent most of it in the library. Lode Heath
was a great place. Many memories about the First XV Rugby team and
atheltics in the summer. Happy, secure and nurturing environment (at
least as far as I was concerned). My passion was, and is, Astronomy. Mr.
Jones encouraged that. My first lecture was about Mars to the Science
Club (first of many over the years). I finally ended up teaching from
age 24. Head of Science at the Winston Churchill School, Woking for
eleven years. Back there teaching after early retirement! I now live in
Farnham, Surrey. Married, with two children. If my maths is correct, we
must be close to a 50th anniversary soon. Anyone still in the area
organising anything? Best regards to all who remember Mr. Jones, Mr.
Blackmore, Mr. Gibbs, Mr. Fitter, Mr. Waldron, Mr. Onslow, Mr. Lunnon,
Mrs. Johnston, Mrs. Keswick. With reference to the "top corridor". It
was always highly polished and very quiet. We used to take staff lunches
up to them. As Head Boy I had to take some strawberries and cream to Mr.
Lunnon in his study (along with another chap). "Did you eat any along
the way?" was the question "No" (and we had not!). He then invited us to
eat the lot!
Laurence Anslow
I taught mainly Music at Lode Heath from 1964 -68 when I moved to the
Bahamas. I would really like to hear from any pupils who were in the
band. I remember a few names like Winderidge Plowman and Stannion. A
very happy school.
Andrew Cunningham
Hello everyone, Dave Peace here. I was at the school in the sixties and
have great memories with me to this day of rugby football, tennis and
subversion! With my friend Peter Ashdown (now living in Australia) we
had a group called the Silhouettes playing regularly at local events
even school "do,s". We were both in the School play one year "On Monday
next" I have great memories of many of the persons mentioned in the
other blogs. After leaving school I played music internationally for
around 8 years at the highest level and was resident Hammond Organist at
many recording studios...I still play blues when asked. I have played on
around 20 albums and had one number one to my credit. I had a good
carear on the Board of Housewares manufacturer Meyer Corporation and now
run my own International Export consultancy with clients here and in
Europe. I have been president of our trade association and I am also on
the Board of Cranfield University. Most of all thanks to Lode Heath who
made me realise that academics and nut cases live happily together.!
Please get in touch
David Peace
I was at Lode Heath from 1964 to 1969 in the same class as Chris Wilkes,
and I have mixed memories. The first three or four years were
fantastic, great friends and great fun, every day an adventure. I
prefer not to dwell on the last year or two; if you didn't do sports you
didn't fit in and they weren't too sure what to do with you. There were
many good teachers and a few bad ones like the art teacher Mrs Horner
who spent all day doing her ironing. My English teacher Dave Littleford
was spot on when he told my parents I would be a writer, although he
probably didn't envisage making a living writing legal documents. After
I was forcibly ejected in 1969 (I still have the letter from Mr Lunnon
asking my parents to remove me from the school) I went to college and
got some A levels, went on to University and got a science degree,
trained as a patent attorney and got married. In the early 80s I
started my own business and moved to Devon where I still work for
myself. We have four houses in the West Country (don't ask - it's a bit
complicated), two Mercedes, two grown up children and two cats. I still
have the same perverted sense of humour (to the embarrassment of my
family) and I have been a life-long radio ham. I enjoy gardening, diy
and cycling, and I'm also a helicopter pilot. Not bad for someone who
was largely written off by my teachers. I often wonder what happened to
the others, Andrew (Plug) Plowman, Neil Peacock, Adrian Windridge, Tony
Randall, Richard Carter, and the girls, Ann Broughton, Anne Davies,
Marion Everett, Marian Cartwright, Hilary Fisher, Rebecca Laight etc.
Steve Craske
I was there untill 1970. With Boney Blackmore what a terrifying
experience anyone remember, Richard Norris an American who had moved to
the UK and was at LHS at the same time. I now live in South Africa.
Bill
Wimpey
I was at Lode Heath 1968-73, and remember many of you guys who have
posted here. The only person I see regularly these days is Trevor Laight,
and that's only because we work at the same company. I particularly
remember the Geography field trip to Cheddar. We went in two groups, one
having perfect weather, and the one I was part of where it rained pretty
much all week. I remember the teachers 'patrolling' the pubs every night
to ensure we weren't in there....that was their excuse anyway. Seems a
lifetime ago doesn't it?
Philip
Powell
I was at Lode Heath school for 1 year only, 1962-3. My one friend Lynne
West, I still see, others I remember are Kathleen Lewis,Janet Warren,
Gina Poulter and Shirley Thomas. We used to listen to "Fluff" on our
transistor radio on a Sunday afternoon in Elmdon Park- Great Days!
We used to go to the Civic Hall on a Monday night to see the
Applejacks-I went with them to see Its a Mad Mad World at the Gaumont
cinema in Birmingham. The lads I remember at school was Rodney
Gregory, Mick Lines,Clive Edgar and Mick Cassidy! I saw Mr Hewson
a while ago in Solihull and asked if he remembered me as he took me for
maths-he laughed and said he was only 12 at the time!! Nice man!
Please get in touch if you remember me!
Jennifer Ward
I was at Lode Heath 1968-71 when I moved to Coventry. I lived in Damson
lane with my grandparents. My best friends were Maxine Whitehouse, Lynne
Carter and Julie Roome. I would love to hear from anybody that might
remember me
Noelle Lea (Clarke)
I attended lode heath school from 1960 to 1964 my name then was Linda

I attended Lode Heath from 1959 to 1964. My best mate at the time (and
still is) was Keith Masom. Although I now live in Norfolk we still keep
in touch. We put our heads together and remember the following pupils:-
Carol Wall, Sandra Derne, Elizabeth Brightling, Peter Ashdown, David
Peace, David Robbins, Susan Skidmore, Wendy Page, Penelope Manners,
Beverly Nichols, Roger(?) Morris, Mary Jones, Victor Hassell & his
sister Wendy(?), John Hewins, Geraldine Cutler, Geoffrey Thorne,
Patricia Allen, Ann Partridge & Michael Protheroe. Apologies to anyone
we have missed. Teachers were:- Mr Cook (Geographt), Mr Lunnon (Head),
Mrs Schenkle, Miss Partridge, Mrs Johnson, Mr Popplestone (squelching up
the corridor in his 'brothel creepers'), Mr Onslow (smashing teacher)
and his friend the plastacine Gerund, Mr Jones (Gen Science), Mr
Blackmore (Woodwork - unforgettable), Mr Gibbs (metal work - almost as
unforgettable), Mr Fitter (PE), Mrs Creswick (music), Mr Heston (Tech
Drawing), Mrs Lenton, Mrs Pearce (RE), Miss Williams (French), Mrs
Greenwell & Miss Porlock. I remember on one occassion either Pete
Ashdown or David Peace bringing a record by Bee Bumble and The Stingers,
of I think their version of Mozart's 40th, to a music lesson. Mrs
Creswick did play it but I don't think that she was impressed. I too
remember the 'forbidden' corridor above the music hall. I seem to
recall that the floor was of highly polished wood and that there was a
miniature train set up there as well.
ps Sorry about the typos. Names should read :- Keith Mason, and
Mr Hewston was the Tech Drawing teacher. Other pupils were Barbara
Walters, Stephanie Whiting, Colin Threadgill and Colin(?) Lakin.
Paul
Reynolds
I attended Lode Heath and TGGS and emigrated to Australia in 1969. My
earliest recollections at Lode Heath were joining the Gym Club and
canoeing on the canal at the bottom of the original playing field. To
join you had to box in the gym and I had to box Peter Watson (whatever
happened to him). I was in Kingsbury House (blue), played in goal for
the 1stXI soccer team, scrum half for the rugby team and wicketkeeper in
the cricket team.
At Lode Heath ours was a mixed class and some of the class were Peter
Watson, Peter Dyson, Ian Merriman, ? Chaplin and ? Moysen the only girls
I recall were Jean Simpson and Margaret Bowles? After moving to Dingle
Lane I recall the playing for the Ist XV out in front of the school and
Martin Crump and David Hill were members of that team as well as being
prefects. I have attached a
recent photo taken in
Albany on the south coast of Western Australia about 400kms from Perth
and would love to hear from any old classmates as I visit UK every
couple of years.
Ernie Deavin
Mostly happy memories of a truly great school. Came out with 5 O'levels
and a broken collar bone.
Chris Wilkes
I attended Lode Heath from 1965 to 1970, following 6 years at Greswolde
Infants & Juniors. I took early retirement after 35 years in the
Electricity Supply Industry eighteen months ago & now work part time for
an Energy & Environmental Consultancy. I now live on the countryside
edge of the Black Country in Stourbridge with my wife & 3 children who
post Uni - still refuse to leave home!!! I remember Lode Heath so well
(favourite teachers - Littlewood, Haggit, & Jones).....Does anyone
remember me?
Eric

Attended Lode Heath 1965-1970. Does anyone know what happened to Lance
Vasey, Paul Sandom, &, Virginia Springer?.
Eric Thomas
I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. I attended 1968-1972,
and was one of the first pupils to do cookery, along with Neil Mason,
Phil Sutherland, and a few others. I finally changed careers from being
a Chef to being a Postman in 2000. I am now living 600 miles away in
North-west Scotland, and am actually compiling a book on my younger
years. I would appreciate any help in regards to photos and snippets of
info in regards to Lode Heath while I was there.
Christopher Cooper
Hi, does anyone remember me - I was at Lode Heath from 1966 until 1971
(approx). I used to live at Lugtrout Lane, and remember many friends,
especially Judy Aspinall, Candy Monk, Anne Beasley etc etc.
Audrey Freeman (now Acton)
I attended LHS between 1964 and 1969. Reading through all the memories
on your site, of which, by the way, I came across looking for something
else, brings a lot back to me, teachers and students alike. Mr Blackmore,
Mr Gibbs, Messers Waldron, Chidler, Haggarty, Harris and of course Mr
Lunnon. The Ladies included, Mrs Dibble, Miss Ball, and the dreaded Mrs
Johnston. She was small and had very short hair and although I was tall
then, If I was caught running she would stop me and catch the hair that
is just in front of my ear and twist it up and march me off to class.
Punishment was another thing. Mr Blackmore and Mr Gibbs used a thick
cane, Mr Haggarty used a pump and Mr 'Wally' Waldren used a very
thin cane, called LuLu ide in a flick type manner. Anyone remember the
'forbidden corridor' upstairs that connected the two top corridors. Only
teachers and Prefects were aloud to use this, everyone else had to walk
back down the stairs, go along past the assembly hall and back up the
other stairs. Best thing I liked then about school was the 'hometime'
bell, now I would love to go back in time and cherish every moment. Time
is a journey we must all take, what we do with it is up to us. we pass
this way only once. Life is not a rehearsal, thank you Lode Heath for
some great times.
Ian
Mitchell
I attended Chappel
Fields junior school and then went on to Lode Heath from 1965 to 1970 - I think.
I had a catastrophic time at Lode Heath, I'm afraid - and I can't really remember many of
my classmates names, (hysterical amnesia, I think they call it), but I'm still in email
contact with Dave Smith.
You won't remember me either, I tried to avoid attending where possible.
Like most misfits I ended up in Amsterdam, where thanks to the Dutch Open U. I got me some
qualifications, and I now own half of the Reeves Montgomery advertising agency. American
wife - Paula, identical twin sons Sean & Dylan.
Mark Reeves
Left in '69. Kept in contact with a few people e.g. Pauline Stevenson,
Alan Tonks, Janice Wilshere. Married Ken Hodson. Remember being in the gang on 'the green'
by Redlands Road. Went to the reunion in '99 - saw Tony Randall, Adrian Windridge,
Jeannette Irving; went with Janice. Live and work in Meriden but parents live on Damson
Wood Estate. Have made contact with Lindsey Brown via another site. Love to hear
from anyone who remembers me - will try to get the grey matter working on the faces!!! Old
age eh!
Jean Snipe
I remember Mr Blakemore and Mr Gibbs, and I remember fellow student
Graham Lacey imitating in a loud voice one of the teachers in the rectangle corridors, and
us all jumping to attention. I remember one of the yearly play productions organised by Mr
Onslow and Miss Shepherd, I know I played Jerry Winterton one year and had a passionate
screen kiss with someone whose name escapes me.
Peter Nicholls
I attended Lode Heath around 1964 - 69. Remember Tony Wood, John Ash, Chris Parker, Steven
Young, Neil Peacock, Adrian Windridge, Tony Randall, Anne Broughton, Rebecca Laight,

other people named. I attended from 1964 - 1968.

I attended Hatchford Brook primary school in the 1950's then went to Lode Heath Grammar
while they were building the schools Harold Cartwright and Harold Malley. I left Harold
Cartwight in June 1965 to come to Australia. I was in form 5 (abysmal GCE O level year).
Maiden name Crutchley, anybody remember or have any news of students. Teachers I remember
Mr Stokes (Maths), Miss Ball (Geography and French) The school appears to have disappeared
as well. I am now living in Canberra, Australia. Grateful for any news
Linda Argall
I attended Lode Heath from 1963 to 1968. All a bit of a fuzz.
Can anyone enlighten me?.

I attended Lode Heath school in 1950/55 most of that time in class 3A.
Best memories are of Mr Gibbs and Mr Blackmore the metalwork and
woodwork teachers where I seem to have spent most of my time.<anything
to get out of History. Both my sisters Barbara and Mollie Hammond also
attended the school in the two years before me. I now own a village
Garage and specialise in vehicle recovery mainly in the Warwick area and
cover the motorways around the midlands. I am married to joy who also
works in the business and have a son and three great grand kids. Philip
my son is now a partner in the business and I tend to push most of the
work his way. Age does catch up on you. Sadly we lost Barbara some
years ago despite a very hard fight on her part with breast cancer.
Mollie has now moved to Pembrokeshire and is enjoying life by the sea
side. I doubt I will ever retire, Joy says I will die with my mobile at
the ready and a heavy recovery truck to take me away. She could well be
correct.

Does anyone remember Dave Sumner who attended Lode Heath around 1956 - 59. His class mates
would have been people like Kenny Fleetwood and Stan Smith. David moved from Solihull when
his father was transferred to the West country (Bristol or Bath to be more precise).
Local pop scene enthusiasts may not know this but Dave, a brilliant guitarist, became a
professional musician in 1961, played for Johnny, Mike and the Shades (a frequent guest on
Brian Mathews BBC Saturday Club, many TV shows and of course the now famous Cavern in
Liverpool). "The Shades" are
one of the bands on the Cavern museum Wall of Fame. It was from this band that Gerry
Marsden (The Pacemakers) first heard the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" taped it
being performed and recorded his own version under the helpful hand of his manager Brian
Epstein of Beatles fame.
Dave then moved to the reformed "Mal Ryder and the Spirits" band "The
Primitives" which included people like Pick Withers, eventually of Dire Straits fame.
He moved to Italy and played for the top Italian band in its day "Cameleonti"
before becoming a full time session musician there. He's still playing at the ripe old age
of 57, still has long hair and still wears black

How time flies! I attended LHS between 1945 and 1955 (in both the
infant/junior and senior schools) What stands out most in my memory is
having to attend country dancing classes in the gym run by Miss
Partridge and Mrs Johnson during wet lunch breaks and headmaster Arthur
Lunnun patroling the corridors with his cane at hand. My old chums then
were John Ford, Graham Tarver, John Wright, Bob Kimberley, Garnet
Hopkins, Malcolm Farr and Hilton King. I recently discovered that one of
my old class-mates, Derek Smith, died recently. I worked with Derek for
a while after we left school at the Birmingham Mail before I moved
abroad to work on newspapers in Africa. The educational system at Lode
Heath could not have been too bad in the '50s after all, as I ended my
working life as a senior copy editor for a large Dutch publishing
house. Are any of my old chums from the 1950s 'A' stream still around?
Are they also dinosaurs like myself? I would be delighted to hear from
any of the old gang.
