I was in Hockley Heath school from 1997-2004.i was in Hockley Heath school all the up from reception to yr 6. it was great fun
and i learned a lot. I'm now at Tudor Grange school and i also like this
also. i prefer it because there's a lot more stuff to do. Hockley can be a
bit boring. Hockley heath was great anyway. w00t! w00t!

I only went to Hockley Heath for my last year of primary
school in Yr6. Although i had lots of fun there i made some brilliant
new mates. I left in 2003 and moved on to Tudor Grange which is the best
out of three schools i have been to. It is awesome there. I still live
in Hockley Heath Village and my brother has just left there to come to
my school unfortunately but we had a really cool time there

I still keep

Dexter Manning, is Mr Gowan still headmaster? we never had a reunion
like we said we would, but I suppose we are only in our last year of
secondary school now, Mr Howells what a legend of a teacher, read he has
left the school and got a new job! anyone remember all the different
games of tig we had in the playground? or what about Mr Brookes famous
rants after every break and lunchtime, he seemed to be obsessive that we
would fail! unfortunately for him I'm doing pretty well, i moved from
Hockley Heath in year 7 now live in Stratford and Shirley. Mrs Downs and
Mrs Steele, nicest teachers ever! hope the best for everyone in the
future, contact me if you remember me

Me and Amy went to Hockley Heath in 1994-2001 we are now sitting in a
business room at Stratford College after not seeing each other for 5 years!
it was a great school to be at and the teachers there are amazing although
some of the teachers we had have now moved on. despite what tom dale says
the hymns are great "light factory light" is a classic! ... Primary school is
great. TTFN

I went to Hockley Heath School from September 1996 till June 2002 i loved
going to Hockley Heath as I had a lot of close friends e.g Louise Clarke,
Natasha Lines and Mia Rollins who i am still friends with today. I think my
favourite teachers had to be Mr Brookes, Mr Howles and Mrs Steele. I miss it
very much as being at Tudor Grange is a shock compared to Hockley Heath. I go
and visit quite a lot as my brother is still there and I think it is a great
school!!!!

Hey my name is Heather Merricks i am 13 years old. I used to go to Hockley
Heath Primary School from 1995 to 2001. At the end of year six I left to go
and live in Canada. I now have a huge house and I also have 26 pets. On
October 21st to the 29th in 2004 I was in England. I did visit the school
but no one was there because it was the school holidays. I really miss
Hockley Heath and i cant wait till i visit again.
Heather Mericks
I went to Hockley Heath primary school from 1995 until 2002 and i really
liked the school as i learnt a lot. i was in trouble quite a bit for the
littlest things. I got good SAT's because of the teachers. My favourite
teacher was either Mr Howles or Mr Brooks. But i had Mr Brooks twice which
was rather strange. I hated the hymns every morning and then the maths leson!
TORTURE!!!!!!!
Tom Dale
I went to Hockey Heath school when Mrs Croft and Mrs Cotcroft were
there. My favourite teachers were Mr Howells and Mr Gowen. I left around
1997.

1980's |

I lived in Hockley Heath all my life up
until 18. I attended Hockley Heath Primary School between 1976-1983. I
would really like to find my old classmates, in particular (and from
memory): Lee MacDonald (Aylesbury Road), Louis Clark (Park View), James
Harris (Henley in Arden), Justin Smith (Tysoe Close, then Aylesbury
Road), Steven and Richard Penny (Blacksmith Lane), Colin Howdell (Park
View, then Aylesbury Road), Warren Powell, Richard Evans (Park View),
Simon Rowlands (Blacksmith Lane/Stratford Road), Mark Evans (Tysoe
Close), Stephen Edwards (Aylesbury Rd), Rachel Plant (Tysoe Close),
Alison Gibbs, Alison King (Park View), Romy Bott, Michel Leonard (School
Road, then Aylesbury Road), Suzanne Moody (Park View), Kirsty Wade (Park
View), Kerry Wood (The Post Office), Emma Forgarty, Melanie Hepworth,
Alex Price (Park View), Clare Walton (Aylesbury Rd), Sharon Foster (who
left the school in Jnr 2/3 aged 8 I think). That makes 25 of my
classmates, some came to the school in between 76 and 83, some left
before. I think we were 30 in total, but obviously there are 5 people I
have forgotten. I remember Rachel Plant and Michel Leonard came to the
school in the 3rd year, and that Kirsty Wade, Suzanne Moody left before
83. I also know Colin Howdell transferred to Dorridge Primary School.
Everyone, with the exception of James Harris went on to Tudor Grange,
years 1983-1988. I do pass by the village from time to time and
occasionally see Simon Rowlands, and Stephen Edwards. I think Louis
Clark and Simon Rowlands still live in the area (Cheswick Green). If you
know any of the listed people above, please get in contact (email
supplied).

I went to Hockley
Heath School from 1968 to 1970 before going to Henley in Arden. My
family moved back to Yorkshire in 1972. It would be nice to hear from
anyone who was there at that time.

I was at hockley heath school in the 50's and i will never forget Mr Denby
he put me off school for the rest of my schooling days and he used to give
the cane to someone every day he wouldn't get away with it now.

I was at Hockley Heath school from 1958 to 1962 when Mr Denby who was an
absolute so and so was the head master. He used to cane a boy called
Christopher Price in front of us all. He once made me stay in for days at
playtime and do lines because he thought I cheated in getting and answer to
a sum - and I hadn't cheated. I sincerely hope he is long dead now!

1940's |
Was at the school from 1948 until december 1955 am now living in South
Africa in the city of Cape Town I used to live in Cranmore Boulevard (Monkspath)and
also in Hay Lane, Mr Scott was the headmaster at the time I was there
and Mr Bowen was the deputy head, I used to get a lift most days from Mr
Maudsley on his motor bike as he used to live in Sparkhill and used to
come down the stratford road to go to the school.

My Dad Austin Chapman attended Hockley Heath School between 1940 and
1950 and is wondering if there is anyone who remembers the School from
that period ?
Richard Chapman
I lived in Illshaw Heath and started school at about 1948. I walked from
there to Hockley Heath each day because we were out of the catchment
area to have a school bus. I can remember when the fires where lit by
teachers, not a thing you would see now, and we had a boiler house when
one one occasion flooded. It was coke fired and we used to pull up the
manhole above in the playground and drop through and slide down the
coke! The toilets were no more than buckets that were emptied at
intervals. I can remember several things while there, some teachers
were, Mr Bowen, Miss Denning, Mr Maudslay, Mr Scott. More details if you
contact me.

My mum was at Hockley Heath School for cookery class on a Friday from
Packwood School in 1940's does anyone remember her?

1930's |
I, Bill Hunt, am now nearly 92 years of age & still live in Hockley
Heath, actually in Box Trees Road, where we operated our business as Box
Trees Boarding Kennels & Cattery from 1936 till 1985.
I attended the school from 1923 till 1933,first at the junior part which
became the old ex post sorting office & is now Shephards estate agents.
Miss Wilks was a teacher, as was Mrs Deakin & Mr Deakin, her husband,
was the headmaster. It was a very different world in those days with
discipline & harsh punishments being dished out unreservedly. There were
no police investigations & ultimate prison sentances for staff who
dished out the caneings & such like punishments then, not even the most
severe. I have to say as so many of my generation say, 'it did us no
harm' & I believe we turned out the better for it.
In much later years Mrs Grey taught at the school, wife of Mr Robert
Grey, headmaster of Arden School Knowle, from the late 50s to mid 70s.
There were no flush toilets or central heating, so taken for granted
now, just slop buckets & open fires, what would so called Health &
safety say about that?.
I would either walk to school or in later years go on the bike which my
father made for me, then leave it at Watts Garage and walk from there
with Bob Watts, him being a couple of years my junior.
We wern't ferried around in top of the range family transport of the
day, under the excuse of safety & protection from so called sinister
lurking evils of desire.
We also made our own fun in those days & made up games which we played
in the playground or on the sports field, just as we did out of
school. This we did in complete safety, apart from the odd & occassional
injury, which then was considered part & parcel of life & the growing up
experience, no TV or computors to occupy our time then.
Still time moves on & with it so does progress, life & of course death
to which so many of my generation have already succumbed.
Thought I would add this as a matter of interest to anyone who may find
it so.
Should anyone wish to reply please do so, is there anyone left who
remembers me, I wonder?.
William Hunt
