Shirley Carnival

A bumper filled day of fun and mayhem in the park with stalls, entertainment and refreshments. It’s a great day for all the family.
Organised by Shirley Lions for over 30 years the Carnival provides an opportunity to have a go on the amusements and rides, shop at and take part in the activities on the stalls, enjoy a bite to eat, watch the shows and demonstrations and take part in the various audience participation activities.  Arena events this year are set to include the Period Fencers Guild, Knowle Taekwando Group, J Js Dancing Group plus everyone's favourite - Punch & Judy. The main beneficiary of the 2009 Carnival will be the County Air Ambulance. Gates open at mid day and admission is £1 for adults and 50p for children. On the day a fancy dress competition will be held on the theme of  "Heroes and Villians" with a £50 prize for the best dressed boy and girl. This outstanding classic of children's literature by Kenneth Grahame is brought brilliantly to life by Heartbreak Productions who specialise in high quality live outdoor theatre in parks and castles etc.
More than "simply messing about in boats", the famous four - Toad, Ratty, Mole and Badger - take us on a journey of mysticism, adventure, morality and camaraderie. A fun family show suitable all ages.
