Q
I am trying to set up a TV/Sky Digibox/combined DVD player/recorder. ~
There's no VCR, just these 3 devices.
I would be really grateful if someone could tell me how the coaxials/scarts should be connected as I am having trouble working out the connections.
Tony

A OPTION 1
My Panasonic DVD recorder is connected as follows.........
Connect AV1 of DVD recorder to AV1 scart socket on TV
Connect TV out Scart socket on SKY BOX to AV2 on DVD Recorder
Connect aerial to aerial in on Sky Box
Connect RF out on Sky Box to Aerial IN on DVD recorder
Connect RF out on DVD recorder to TV aerial socket
You can watch Sky on AV1 on TV and when playing a DVD this will also show on AV1
You record Sky by selecting AV2 on DVD recorder (set to record RGB signals)
....................... OR OPTION 2 ( may be better if not a Panasonic DVD recorder)
AV1 on DVD to AV1 on TV
TV out on SKY to AV2 on TV
VCR out on SKY to AV2 on DVD
Aerial connections as in Option 1 but you watch SKY on TV AV2 channel

Q
I want to record TV programmes on to my laptop it has a DVD/RW
How do I connect the TV to my laptop
Cathy
A You can buy an adaptor to view and record TV on your laptop.
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/product.php?sku=464876 receives all the regular
channels plus the new Freeview digital ones. You do need a good aerial signal in order to do this however.

Q
Can you give me advice on connecting DVD recorder via freeview/hardrive to TV so I can record all Freeview programmes, the TV, DVD & Freeview box all have two scarts, I also have nicam video with one scart. I have connected all together via scarts & RF leads but only able to tune in analogue programmes, can you help?
Russ Jenkins
A Most Freeview adaptors do not provide an RF output for recording so you need to record from the scart output. You should have a scart lead from your Freeview box (VCR socket) to your DVD recorder AV2 socket, so just select the AV2 (or E2) input on your DVD recorder and press record. This should record whatever your Freeview box is receiving or playing from the hard drive. If your VCR has only one scart socket it will not be easy to include it in the loop without swapping leads or using a switch box.

Q
I have a digital Freeview box with one scart socket a video with two scart sockets which are currently set up and run into a TV with two scart sockets via scart and RF inputs. I can do everything I want to (recording from digibox and normal analogue source, play back etc) like this. I have just purchased a DVD recorder which has two scart sockets IN/OUT and RF IN/OUT. Can I fit this by removing the scart lead from the video to TV and putting it into the DVD recorder scart in then take the scart out back to the TV and then do the same with the RF side.
Kev
A
As your Freeview box has only one scart socket I would recommend connecting the units as shown in this diagram It sounds as if you are able to record from the RF output of the Freeview box but many models do not have and RF out that enables you to record so I would advise others to purchase a Freeview box with 2 scart sockets for the purpose of recording Freeview.

Q
How do I connect my cable decoder, VCR & DVD to my TV. They all have 2 scart sockets apart from the DVD which only has one. I sometimes use one of the TV scarts to connect from my PC?
Is it possible to connect all four items to the TV at the same time.
If yes, will I be able to record on the VCR from the individual units.
David Morgan
A Connect Cable (or Sky box) TV out into AV1 scart socket on TV
Connect  Video ( Video Out) into Video Socket on Cable (or Sky box)
Connect  the DVD into AV2 input on TV
This enables you to watch cable or video on AV1 on the TV ( you don't do both at same time) and to watch DVD's on AV2. You can record cable on the AV2 line input on your video. You cant record DVD's - your not supposed to.
You will need to buy a scart switch box to be able to connect your PC if you don't have a free scart socket on the TV.

Q Can I record on VCR and also on DVD Recordable at the same time on TV programmes, and how to connect DVD & VCR & Cable Decoder all to TV?
John Gilmour
A You can record different programmes on DVD and Video at the same time.
This is because both have independent TV tuners.
If you have a TV with at least 2 scart sockets you can connect a DVD (recorder or player) into one socket. Connect your video into the cable box via a scart lead then connect your cable box to the TV via the remaining scart socket. If you are in the Solihull area the cost to call out and setup is £15 plus £4 per scart lead.

TV Tech

When buying a DVD player look for a model that plays CD-R and CD-RW discs. When DVD recorders become more popular this will be an essential feature on all players.

If you have a Nicam TV  and a Nicam Video you must connect them using a SCART lead in order to playback tapes in stereo.
