Earlswood Lakes were built in the early 1800s to supply water to the
Birmingham to Stratford cannel. Over the years Earlswood Lakes have popular
place to visit.
A few years go British Waterways, several local councils, the Residents
association and many other groups came together and formed The Earlswood
Lakes Partnership, to help protect and improve Earlswood for all to enjoy.
There are three lakes all with walks around them, and the partnership have
been successful in obtaining grants for improvements to the footpaths.
Engine House Pool has good paths suitable for wheelchair access or
pushchair.
Terry’s Pool is a nature reserve the path on the south side is good and
suitable for wheelchairs but part of the north side footpath gets very muddy
in wet weather.
Windmill Pool has sailing in it. The south footpath is good, the north
footpath is dry but narrow and is not suitable for wheelchairs.
In 2002 The Earlswood Lakes Partnership were awarded a grant from the Local
Heritage Initiative to create a trail around the lakes with marker posts
together with a leaflet "The Secret History of Earlswood Lakes" and an
activity sheet for children. The leaflet and activity sheet are
available from local shops or may downloaded.
