I have not been there in years but I fancy making a return
one day.

Regulars of the drum and monkey beware. I thought, along with
many others the stables bar was fantastic and look at it now. Oh and i
agree i have tried the drum at various over the years and i agree with
anon. Isn't it the same as putting `A regular` or `A supporter of the
drum` the same as putting anon?

My mother and I fancied a bite to eat after a night out at
the cinema so chose the Drum and Monkey. I forgot it was having a
refurb and we were pleasantly surprised. We were only peckish so opted
for two starters, which were out of this world.
A definite return.

Was looking forward to refurb - however... Arrived
about 5:30pm - was overcharged 1.30 at the bar for a small wine and a
pint, not a good start. Ordered food 2 adults 1 child (note no
Childs
menu). Food arrived:- child portion - poor:- only 1 sausage! are
they trying to save money. The instant mash with the ale pie still had
powdery lumps, - and the steak was brought, minus the peas. When
questioned on the peas the server said "oh it doesn't come with peas"
---- Duh! check the menu.

Have seen the refurb' (through the window) looks fantastic,
yet still keeps the cosy
atmosphere. Can't wait for pub to open so can try new menu, hope
the beer's not gone up

I think it is a real shame that people like 'anon' come on to this
site and just degrade the Drum and Monkey with their comments. They are
quite obviously not regulars as they would know the financial restraints
that Colin and Tom have placed on them. With the financial backing they
get I think that the current management team have done a tremendous job
working all hours to try and provide good food and a nice atmosphere. It
is a shame that people are not willing to give a pub a second chance
because it has an orange wall. How pathetic Mr Anon must be. The staff
at the Drum and Monkey have always been friendly and make the visit a
worthwhile one. I am sure MR Anon is one of those who argues over having
a lottery ticket discount a 2 for 1 discount and a diamond circle
discount in an attempt to get his meal for a few quid.
Frankly the Drum and Monkey does not need customers like Mr Anon and is
better off with the locals that enjoy their pint in a nice atmosphere.

I would just like to respond to Anon's comment on the 7th August
2003: The interior condition of the Drum and Monkey needs to be
addressed, no one argues with that. It is not the manager who pays for a
refurbishment but the 'powers that rule' above. We have asked for money
to be spent on the pub but to no avail.
Our fellow Scottish and Newcastle Pub The Reservoir was left for years
in a tatty state before the company spent millions on updating it and
making it more restaurant based. This upset many locals who had used it
for years, to the extent that they formed a petition. Our other 'sister'
pub The Boat Inn has also had a 'mini makeover' but the company decided
half way into the improvements that they were going to halve the amount
of money that they were going to spend on it. It was only completed when
staff and customers showed head office how ridiculous the pub looked
half new and half old. The manager and staff are doing their best in
what we all realise are not ideal circumstances. We thank all regular
customers for their support and hope that head office will give us some
money soon so that all customers can enjoy a visit in more pleasant
surroundings.

The Drum and Monkey is clearly a pub that does not have the new and
modern, minimalist approach that other local pubs do, however I think
that this pub does have the comfortable, cosy atmosphere that we all
sometimes crave. The decoration is perhaps a response to lack of funding
from management and at least it is a vast improvement from before. What
i do recognise here is staff who are willing to add a little
familiarity, giving the customers a friendly atmosphere, they seem to
know what the customers want and are genuinely helpful.
The food isn't brilliant, but with 2 4 1 offers who's complaining?

Some may say that it isn't what it used to be or place bad comments
on it, but to be honest you have to experience it for yourself in order
to get a good perspective, as it is the friendly and continuously
helpful staff that help provide a good night out and compared to a lot
of pubs/dining facilities within the area... I suggest most people like
'Anon' stop moaning and go try it for yourself, you will find a large
variety of all ages varying from young to old and a perfect Wednesday
quiz night to match...
I'm new at this..

The quality and portioning of the food was generally poor. The beer
was none too pleasant either. It has been painted recently in the most
awful colours, you think the manager could afford decent painters. This
used to be a great pub but it really has gone down hill.

Used to love going to the Drum for some good food in nice
surroundings. Bit it's seriously gone down hill in the last year or so -
the pub is tatty and the food is nowhere near the standard it used to be
- what a shame.

Very disappointed what could be a very good local pub, but instead is
full of young drinkers and the rest of the local yobs and boy racers
from Knowle and Dorridge.

Just left after 5 yrs working there it is a great place with some v
friendly staff. Some of the lady staff are nice as well!!! I think
Bernie deserves a mention for his brilliant quiz's on Wednesday nights. PINKY AND THE BRAIN RULE

Brilliant local pub. The kitchen is run by the World Famous Big Tom (sound geezer and
quality chef) and the whole place is owned by Colin (he is quite small so you might not
see him!). Bar and waiting staff are really friendly (and that one called Emily is really
fit ! )

Not a bad locals sort of pub. Pretty good service (take note Red Lion).
Good game machines, good beer and a good garden for the summer

Great place to eat, but sorry that Joel left. He had a great smile and we will all miss
him dearly

Great place to eat, friendly and great comfy areas to sit. Nice for a couple having a pub
meal.

The staff at the Drum are friendly and pleasant. The Tetleys is a lovely drink, and the
company at the bar is varied and good fun!
