that much.

wondering if anyone out there remembered me. Chapelfields was great, teachers were always
a laugh. Is Miss Burnett and Ms Callaghan still there? Miss Burnett may not be that
anymore, she got married shortly after I left, I sang at here wedding, but cannot remember
her married name. Anyone who wants to chat, contact me. See you around... Keiron

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Suzanne, and Paul and Mandy (twins)
Evans. They lived in Daylesford Road, My mom has lost contact with their
parents and would dearly love to find them.
Lynne Morton (nee Jones)
I came to Chapelfields School from Wells Green Infants School in 1977,
went on to Tudor Grange in 1981, Solihull Sixth Form in 1986 and
Birmingham University in 1988, finally leaving full-time education in
1992. I have very fond memories of my time there including a school
trip to Ouistreham, wonderful shows organised by Mrs Hill in which I
remember being a giraffe, a shepherd and a Roman centurion (not in the
same show mind)and wearing Dr Marten boots when they first became
popular. My teachers were Mrs Boddington, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Ward and
Wagstaff and Mrs Smith in the fourth year. Those in my class included
Simon Davis, Steven Taylor, Paul Austin, Darren Allcock, David Brown,
David Morrow, Jason York, Catherine Spiller, Joanne Britton, Wendy
Williams, Vanessa Heath, Julie Wilcox, Wendy and Tracey Blizard and Lisa
Hayes, who I am still in touch with.

I began Chapel Fields Infants School in 1976 and stayed on to attend
Lyndon Secondary School briefly. I immigrated to the United States in
1982 with my family-- I'm writing this from Pennsylvania, USA! Still, my
years at Chapel Fields were formative and I remember them well. Mr.
Weatherburn retired while I was a student and Mr. Craythorne (sp.)
became head of the Infants and Junior School, the first time these posts
were combined. I remember there was a school trip to France that I did
not attend, but as consolation, Mr. Craythorne took some of us to the
top of the watchtower that another writer mentions. We were so excited
to have enjoyed this special privilege. We were told there was ghost up
there, but all I remember was some old wooden furniture. Still, I
told stories of having heard the ghost to all the children who came back
from France!

I attended Chapel Fields Infant and Junior school
in the early 1970's and then Lyndon Comp between 1979 and 1983. If anyone remembers me
from those days I would be delighted to hear from them. I was at Lyndon Upper school while
Mr Carter was head, and Mr Thomas was deputy. My form teacher was Mr Hitchen and my form
classes were 3K, 4K and 5K. Any memories from these times at Lyndon?

I was at Chapelfields from 1970-74. I was taught by Miss Philips, Mr
Jones, Miss Davis and Mr Baily. I was the one with curly hair and I seem to remember
giving Clair Stokes a hard time. Sorry! I moved away in December 1974.

I was at Chapelfields from 1956-1962,remember Mrs Corley didn't like her
much, also Mr Neville, Mr Bailey, Mrs Glover and Mr Patterson. My
brother also went to Chapelfields 1958-1964, would be great to hear from
any one who remembers us.
John Roberts
Its been an "eye opener" reading some of tales people mailed in about Chapel Fields. I was there in the 60's, looking back, as schools go it was OK. I was a rebel there and at Lyndon, but I consider that they still managed to teach me (well I know my tables). I now live in Turkey, I am having a villa built with a magic sea view, maybe I learnt more than my "tables" so thank you Chapel Fields. Wayne Matthews
I went to Chapelfields Junior School from 1960 to 1964. My teachers were
Miss O'Reilly (first year), Mrs. Savage (second year), Mr. Buckingham
(third year), Mrs. Emonson (fourth year). Mr. Neville was the
Headmaster. He retired, there was a collection for him. The money was
used to buy him an armchair so that he may retire in comfort. Mr.
Bailey used to take us for games. I remember him explaining the theory
of football to us. I did not understand a word of it. During our first
game, twenty outfield players ran around the pitch in a huddled group in
pursuit of the ball. Afterwards Mr. Bailey asked us if we thought that
we had played a game of skilled football. We all shouted yes. He
retorted that we were wrong. Apparently, we had played a game of
"kick-and-rush", skilled football was something that we were going to
have to learn. In my second year, we were on the first floor of
the main building. There was a tower. We were told that it was a
"lookout post" during the Second World War. There was a redundant air
raid shelter in the middle of the playground. During hot summers, we
would climb up onto its flat roof and sit there. Once we knocked out a
board from a very small window aperture and climbed inside. There were
just empty rooms, though it was very dark. I remember the
Christmas parties, everyone took food some food in, and thawing frozen
bottles of milk by the hot radiators before drinking. 1963 was a very
cold winter. The snow stayed for a very long time. I used to walk to
school along Ulleries road. After the thaw, Ulleries Road was just a
mass of potholes. Ulleries Road had to be rebuilt and resurfaced.

I remember the school, Mr Weatherburn, Mrs Glover, Mr Bailey. I remember
someone impaling themselves on the school fence but cant remember who it
was. Remember pupils, Jane Shepherd, John Hood, Paul Worth, John
Kitchen, who else was there?
Kevan
Talbot
I was at Chapel Fields 62-69, Weatherburn was the
junior school head, can't remember who was head of the infants. Became a prefect in the
juniors & Weatherburn said he was happy to see me leave as I kept on breaking windows,
playing cricket. Also remember collecting old anti-aircraft bullets from the playing
fields.
John Kitchen
1964 onwards if my fingers are correct. Mr Bailey was headmaster. Names remembered,
Margaret & Julie Webber, Elaine Martin, Jackie Field, Leonard Whitehouse, Stephen ?,
Alan Harper, Stella Morris. Most moved up to Lyndon High School. Currently undertaking
ECDL3 at Sutton Court IT Centre hence having a go on the net age 45!!

I was a pupil at Chapel Fields Junior and Infants School from 1953-1957. I remember Mr Neville, head of the junior school and his cocker spaniel dog, I think it was called Sue, who used to follow him all over the school. It was a delight to all of us when Sue came into the classroom. I remember Miss Bonnikar, infant head teacher, and Mrs Corley, who I was never very fond of. I lived just opposite the school at 127 Richmond Road known in the early 1950s as 9 New Park Road. The name changed when the road was cut through Richmond Park Road to join us up with Richmond Road. The two little lanes at the end of the our road, known as the big lane and the little lane. Yes, I remember Brenda Guteridge and Walter Savin and some of the other names mentioned. Does anyone remember Elizabeth Stansbie, Anne McCarthy, Jennifer Clark or Ann Williams from New Park Road. Or even my older brothers David and John Cole? I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers. Glenis Slater, nee Cole Nice to read John
kitchens comments on the school, Sorry john I cant recall you from
Pierce Avenue i lived at no 26 when I was at Chapel Fields Miss
Bonnicker was the headmistress of the infants, pencils and paper were
not an issue we used to have a slate and a piece of chalk to do our work
on, one of our teachers was a Miss Shepherd always wore bright red
lipstick (anyone remember her)? oh by the way john I thought the
prettiest girl in the area was Angela Davies live at no 36 I think, I
also remember Connie Weston. The air raid shelter, pitch black in
there we used to dare one another to run through it. As for the
tip (now the park) the chap who (Tommy Malley) looked after the tip and
lived at no 24 Pierce Avenue. There was a brook by the Pierce Avenue
entrance this area was a large pond full of Bullrushes with all sorts of
wonderful wildlife in it.
Walter Savin
A wonderful walk down memory lane.
I attended Chapel Fields school, Ulverley, then Tudor Grange. Left for Canada in'63 and
have only returned once. You can never go home again! Great site! Anyone recall my
name from Ulverley or any of the other schools?
Richard Wilford
Anyone remember the Olton Picture house, the Saturday matinee, did anyone hear any of the
films with all the chatter and ice cream cartons whizzing past your ears, I can remember a
few of the films Flash Gordon, The Iron Monster (boy was that scary), Roy Rogers, Zorro. I
also remember the pottery shop by Lincoln Road, on Saturday they used to sell home made
coloured pop 1 penny a bottle, on reflection it tasted awful but it quenched the thirst
from all the shouting in the pictures. I think the red was made with watered down
cochineal, the yellow from crushed dandylions and the green washing up liquid, oh for a
bag of grassy scratching from the chippy, its a wonder were sill alive.
Walter Savin
Have just come across your website and oh how it brought back memories. I attended Chapel
Fields School from 1950 to 1957 then on to Lyndon High School for Girls (as it was called
at that time) the to Sutton Lodge (now Solihull Technical College I think. Does anyone
know where Ann Saunders, Jayne Taylor, Alison Phillips, Norma Chambers might be. (probably
different surnames). I remember biking Hobs Moat and walking along the canal banks,
bluebelling in spring. Will be back April 2001 -
Now live in Winnipeg, Canada. So many of us move away but retain such good memories.
Does anyone know where Howard Shaw might be?
Brenda Guttridge
I lived in Pierce Avenue Olton this was when Bulls Farm was at Richmond
road, Richmond road at that time was split in two by the farm fields, to access the other
half of Richmond road towards Warwick road meant going through two 5 bar gates, many happy
days spent around here. Anyone remember this and the name Savin, I was at Chapel fields
from 1949 till 1955
Walter Savin
I was a pupil at Chapel Fields Juniors from around 1950 till about
1954. One of my teachers was Mr Yates. Deputy Head was Mr Bailey...I think
that he left to become Head at another school. My brother was also at the school, his name
was Kenneth Martin. My friend Wendy Hill was also there, as was Norma Stretton and her
brother Gary, Carol Whitlock, Jean Lowe, Leslie Robins, the twins Janet & John Mendis
(spelling might be wrong here). I remember that it was a privilege to be allowed up
into the tower.
I think that was something that the older classes were allowed to do. I had been a pupil
for 2 years at Wagon Lane School, prior to going to Chapelfields. Does anyone remember any
of the names I have given. I would love to hear from anyone who would like to talk more
about these nostalgic days!

I attended Chapelfields School
during and after the War. I stated in the infants and then went into the juniors and then
on to Lode Heath. My older sisters and younger sister also went to Chapelfields School. I
remember while in the juniors many male teachers coming back after the war. Mr Neville was
headmaster while I was there. When at Lode Heath in the second year we were given
the chance to be the first pupils at the new Lyndon School opening. Many decided to leave
but most of us decided to stay at Lode Heath. While at Lode Heath we were on the Council
Steps when Princess Margaret came when Solihull was made a Borough.
I have very happy memories of Chapelfields, on one occasion running down Lyndon Road when
the sirens went and German plane was flying around. My feet never touched the ground my
sisters held me so tight. We lived in Sheldon. I have so many memories of those
years.
